I like Siggy - he was our best player last season in terms of goals created and scored.
I am not one of the 'sell him' camp at all.
But anything over £40m for him is absolute genius. If it starts getting to £50m it's insane.
14 teams finished above us last season, none of which had Siggy. People are beginning to talk as though he's Messi (and the Everton fans are even worse - they should be fuming at spending that on him, not because they don't have the money, but because of what they could buy that's so much better for so much less).
It was reported last night that Everton thought they had him. I imagine that was the £40m bid. Siggy says he won't go on tour, thinking it forces our hand to accept. We then turn the bid down and call the bluff of both Siggy and Everton which is frankly a ballsy call. Let's see what happens. But if we get say £45m for him, if we can't improve the team for that, including his loss, we have zero clue. |
You're right, anywhere near £50m would be insane and a phenomenal job by the club. Transfer fees are rising all the time, but £50m would put him around the top 20 most expensive transfers ever.
I like Gylfi, but that's mental.
Buy low, sell high. It's how clubs like us thrive. The talent is out there, but is our scouting good enough? There are more relative bargains like Kante, Payet, and Ayew if we can find them. |  |

It was inevitable that Siggy would leave the club this transfer window, the writing was on the wall from the outset.
£40 million rejected, so yes a ballsy move so they seem to be sticking by their valuation of him, which to me is absurd ! Excellent business and i'll stand by what i said, for anything £40-50 million, he's got to go.
Now, there is no doubt at all that Clement has a list of players he likes/wants, and no doubt the club has a similar list of Siggy replacements, if they haven't then they just haven't prepared for this transfer window. Replacing him with a single player is not going to happen, who worth £50 million will want to come here ? So i'm thinking two players, one for £20-25 million to directly replace Siggy and then some money to strengthen RB and perhaps elsewhere, and no doubt the rest will end up in some black hole, although saving some for stadium expansion wouldn't be such a bad idea. | | | |

Hasn't had the best season at Bayern, but I think it would be a stellar signing for us. We'd have one of the best midfields in the league if thats the case. ON PAPER. | |

Yep.
What people are afraid of is who we replace him with, whether we will only spend part of the fee on strengthening the first team and who is calling the shots on replacements. This should not be a surprise so we should have people lined up.
No player is bigger than the club. Even legends leave - Curt, Robbie, Leon, ash etc. take your pick and add who you like.
Playing hardball and getting top whack is important- what would Southampton ask for him not what would our director of football have asked left to his own devices.

Ah mate exactly.
The money involved in these transfers these days is absolutely absurd.
Everton have already fallen into that category for me, their owner is just splashing the cash on whoever they fancy (at least how it seems), not saying they may well be calculated business decisions.

We wont need to replace him with someone who scores 8-10 and assists 10-15.
By selling him we allow a change of style. A style that doesnt just go through him and his delivery. The goals will be spread out more.
So while his replacement may only get 5 goals and 5 assists for arguments sake. The likes of Ayew should be allowed more of the ball and to affect the game more, so will get 5 goals and 5 assists more than normal for example. This should be seen in all our remaining attacking players.
As long as we have an able replacement (the one above is a good shout) then we will have done good business. |

I think we all are in this league dobbie (loved your Wembley goal btw).
£120m+ a year turnover (mostly from TV, who then dictate when we play games); sponsorship from whicher dodgy betting brand gives us the most; (sh*t) players on many tens of £000s a week, paid as image rights so they can avoid tax; £millions to agents who just screw clubs out of their income; fans milked for 2 kit changes a season).

Same goes for Llorente, Mawson and anyone else who may be targeted by other clubs in the next year or so.
