The EFL must have given assurances to the buyers that they'll allow the purchase. The buyers wouldn't have proceeded all the way through to completion otherwise. I mean who would buy a football club knowing it will be kicked out of the league half an hour later?

The buyers are waiting for the EFL to tell them if they will allow more time to complete a deal. I believe. The EFL presumably needs to decide whether the sale is sound and can be completed in a reasonable time frame.
