Well done Matt Hancock. He set that huge target knowing it would need a gargantuan effort to hit it and yesterday that 100k target was smashed.

It’s funny how the left were screaming about the target not being hit last week, but now the target has been the smashed the left say the numbers don’t matter.

All over the place and desperate.

Screaming? Really? It has been said for weeks that testing in itself isn’t enough and there needs to be a coherent strategy that involves contact tracing followed by targeted quarantine. So far we have been given a target figure which up to the day before yesterday had not been reached. Still no sign of a strategy beyond hitting a testing target. Perhaps we will hear something next week.

You’re not happy unless you’re moaning. It must be depressing being so bitter and twisted.

Exactly Sad old Git, as this proves CV-19 is a racist illness so non whites should be prioritised for testing as a matter of urgency and part of our strategy. We cannot have our multicultural society put at risk by this discriminatory condition.

Ok, moving on from the personal stuff, we know what the testing figure was on Wednesday (81,000) and you tell us that they have smashed their target (yesterday I assume) but I haven’t seen a figure yet. Perhaps you can enlighten us so we can all raise a cheer for Matt?

It was only 120,000 because they changed how they measured it:

"HSJ understands around 27,000 home tests were posted to people yesterday as part of pillar two work. They will form part of today’s testing figures which are yet to be published."

i.e. tests that have just been posted out were included in the figure, even though they haven't yet been done or returned.

It's clear that they were determined to report that the arbitrary figure had been reached - even if it involved massaging the figures.

50,000 counted like that the day before, government advisor confirmed this was part of how the figures were counted on tonight's briefing. At least dick Turpin had the decency to wear a mask.

i'm a sceptic but have to say that the ramp up in testing is really impressive.

debating the target / bases for counting is puerile.

we needed a step change and Handjob had delivered it so credit to him.

I heard that on the briefing. He said it was easier to measure it that way but didn't really explain why. It's certainly less accurate. Home tests are returned to the labs so how difficult can it be for them to count how many they process.

He also said that there hadn't been a change in the counting method but home testing has only just started. Prior to that all counting was done by the labs.

Call it "puerile" but there's a bigger issue here. It's to do with trust.

Let’s get it right, you’re a 71 year old man who spends his time logged in to a rivals board pretending he’s a Southampton fan from Kent, you post pictures from the internet of an expensive kitchen pretending it’s your own, you can’t even keep basic hygiene standards at home, and you come on here like you’re an authority on a health crisis?

a month ago we were hopelessly unprepared. no argument there. Handjob set a target (and got slated for it) and, as a result, we've ramped up massively. those are the facts. We are now much better prepared for the next stage.

you can split hairs and debate the semantics all you like but the bottom line is - we are better placed than we were 4 weeks ago.

don't think you can debate that... You probably can...

for the record i am a remaoning lefty but credit where it's due. the media positioning on this is making my teeth itch.
