I see that the government have handed out another contract to a firm with links to Gove and Cummings without it going out to tender.

I wonder what our many business tycoons on here make if this shoddy practice?

Surely you Tories believe in the free market and that competition drives down prices? What do you make if all these juicy contracts being handed out on a platter to their buddies?

It's always gone on, ever since time began - and no matter how much squinnying or how much derision we all show - it will never ever change... not ever. It goes with the territory of being an MP (ie; perks) whether you're left, right or centre.

Exactly, business around the world works on who you know. It’s come on a long way in state funded contracts from the old brown envelope but no matter which government around the world, someone who knows someone is more likely to win it.
Labour would be no different to the tories in that respect.

I don’t recall other Governments being so brazen and dispensing with the tender process completely.

Whinge, moan, whine. Good grief you must be a joy to live with!

Is there anything at all that gives you a feeling of positivity?

You should feel pleased - looks like the virus has burned itself out in the UK (unlike here in the US) and life should return to normal in the near future. In terms of contracts being awarded: not sure what else you are expecting. Maybe, just maybe, the company(ies) awarded contracts had the best bids?

Blair's government received a substantial donation from Bernie Ecclestone....suddenly tobacco sponsorship and advertising was not banned from Formula 1.
I'm sure Dr David Kelly would be able to give us an insight into Blair's lies and corruption.
But of course he's no longer with us.

That is my point. There were no other bids because the work has not been put out to tender, it has just been handed on a plate to certain companies who have links to senior Tories. Not even a slight prentence of competition.

Strange how Government can get away with this.

my work involves procurement, and we have obtain several tenders for any work over £5k, and also have to disclose if we know or have an interest in any of the contractors tenderering.

Seems these rules don’t apply to current government, who give contracts for supply of goods they don’t even produce currently or for ferry services when they don’t have any boats, because they’re good party doners.

Rules don't apply to Boris and his chums and their mates on boards of companies
Thats how it works in the self serving Tory world that so many saw as the answer to this countries problems

Unfortunately, voters don't seem too bothered about corruption these days.

Just look at Trump. Roger Stone was found guilty by a jury of five counts of lying to congress, one count of witness tampering and one count of obstruction of a proceeding - all in connection with an investigation into Trump, and Trump (the man he was protecting) commutes his sentence. On any normal standard, it's completely outrageous but he knows it won't really make much difference to the voters, so he just carries on.

The bar just gets lower and lower in terms of the standards we expect of politicians, so they act accordingly. It's the voters who are prepared to overlook such thing who are ultimately to blame for a decline in standards.

The old human nature strawman. We have experts not only regarding business but in the fields of anthropology, evolutionary biology and sociology on here. I feel truly humbled. Such levels of corruption of course are not human nature, such levels of acceptance of corruption are not human nature. They are carefully plotted conditioning exercises. The drip drip of corruption wears us down, the brazening out and casual diffidence regarding their gangster divvying out of our money to their pals. When we buy crap kit for our forces because hands have been greased, mates have paid back mates do we shrug our shoulders?

This isn't just business it's the provision of supposed life saving devices.

Not saying it’s right or the way it should be but it’s gone on since the beginning of time with all forms of governments, extreme left, extreme right and everything in between.

This, as usual, is a bit of mongboard Tory bashing. Let’s not pretend it wouldn’t happen if someone else was in charge

Now the Randox Covid-19 testing kits have been withdrawn on “safety grounds”. Another contract that was handed out to a firm with Tory links without going to tender.
