Bertrand lazy and out of position all the time. Ward Prowse can't tackle mark or pass, or head the ball. Long needs glasses. Redmond doesn't like passing only losing possession. Ingsy and Peters our only quality.

Clean sheet with Ves in the team. He did some some good blocks and clearances. I wouldn't say he was terrible.

But add to that he did that cracking 40 yard shot that hit the bar against Brighton, scored against Man U at St Mary's. Recently played in another game that we won and played well, can't remember which one. He's clumsy at times, but I think he is better than people think imo.

I thought he played well, we just dominated a desperate team, so impressed with the way we’ve played since lockdown, walker peters was everywhere, straight swap with hojlberg looks like good business.

I thought he played ok today (only ok) but better than Stephens today.

They lobbed loads of balls into the box which he managed. Stephens rarely wins balls 1 on 1 with a striker. The only time I see Stephens win balls in the air is when he is not challenged.

All said - I still agree we need another CB to partner Bednarek.

All of this whinging about our central defence is getting very tedious and boring.
Sort it out Nick.

Agree, Stephens was more of a liability than Vestergaard today.
For me Vest just doesn’t seem brave or aggressive enough, especially for his size. Often gets bullied in the air by shorter players.
Stephens has had enough chances, can have a goood run of games then goes back to being dodgy.

I would like a new central defender for sure. But I won't moan about a defence that kept a clean sheet against one of the best teams in the world (Man City). And since then we have produced some excellent defensive performances and clean sheets recently. Maguire was 80 million pounds and was terrible for Man U today, scoring a dodgy own goal. With all this, should we really be moaning?

As long as we win, and we are doing so consistently, I am happy.

Well only 4 teams have conceded more than us all season, and we’re it not for Ings banging in as many as he has we’d be in trouble. Quite a few of our goals conceded were down to CB errors.
Reliable centre halves are so important as the signing of Van Dijk has proved for Liverpool, that and a keeper were their Achilles heel.
We were spoilt with Fonte, VVD, Alderweireld etc for a while but we need one or 2 much better that we currently have.

Full credit to the whole defence and the whole team for a cracking result, but Vestergaard left us in trouble on countless occasions. The wild lunge by the touchline in the first half leading to an excellent piece of covering by kwp, the scissor challenge on Wilson on the halfway line when he got booked, x number of misplaced passes going directly to the opposition, giving the ball away in his own area leading to the ‘fantastic’ block he put in to redeem the situation in the 2nd half, totally out paced on numerous occasions, I could go on.

I’m amazed people are saying he played well, I thought he was atrocious.

I think we could do with another top quality centre back. We don't have a VD of course. We conceded a lot of goals at the beginning of the season, but maybe they are improving and Ralph is coaching them into better players. But what I'm saying is that when fans say Stephens is a liability, Ves is terrible etc etc, surely they are not that bad: they stopped Man City scoring. A team that scores 5 past nearly every one, including Liverpool. The whole team is playing better, and it wasn't just the defence that was at fault, at the beginning.
