Isn't it wonderful how we help these economic migrants get across to the UK. The give them lodgings in 4* star hotels

Rightly, we need to ensure there is good WiFi service in the hotels...

Would economic migrant include Tommy Robinson who is doing a runner to Spain to avoid potential libel costs?

Or Nigel Farage with his new German passport?

It’s good to read a first hand account about the situation. We need to realise that the vast majority of these people are no different than the rest of us and just want to live their lives in relative safety. The point that we have finite resources is a fair one and goes for every country, but we and every other country also have a basic responsibility to do what we can to help fellow human beings.
We should be eternally thankful that conditions are not so bad here that we feel the need to risk our lives and those of our family in an overcrowded rubber dingy trying to cross the busiest shipping lane in the world.

By definition every country has finite resources. One thing is clear though, we are already pushed for space (unlike say France or Germany),

As for a responsibility to others, yes to a degree, but I would say in their home country if at all possible. We also have a responsibility to sick, elderly and deprived people here. There’s a balance and a free for all of young men coming across the channel is not a balance.

The reason we should be grateful for the way we live now is the squalor, pain and suffering our forbears went through for which I am grateful, and that legacy needs to be used wisely.

They don't have to risk their lives in rubber boats. They can claim asylum in all the countries they pass through before they get to the UK.
And to state that they have to put up with grotty b&b's in the UK. What sort of living standards do you think they have in their own countries?

They might not have to, but obviously many do. I didn’t say anything about “grotty b & bs”?
