Just read some stats which claim that in Scotland the average life expectancy for a man is 80 1/2 and a woman 84 1/2, the average age of corona virus deaths there is 81 for men and 85 for Women

I would like to see the figures in England

Just found the original article from the end of July

"For the UK as a whole, the median age of coronavirus victims is the same as in Scotland. But general life expectancy is slightly higher on average in the other home nations – 82-and-a-half for men and 85 for women."

But you chose to single out immigrants. Perhaps we should mention the number of politicians that contract Covid too?

To be fair you can't just defend the immigrants the northerners are also being attacked on this thread so you must defend them as well surely ?

They should build a wall the width of the country just above Oxford to keep the northerners out and let us get on with it , nothing down here.

Probably because Covid is rife up north 🙄, just a thought. We will see tomorrow that there will be complete lockdowns in some northern areas, a three tier system will be introduced, I don’t think they’ll be much change down here.

Of course. But it is not a question of defending people. Every human is capable of contracting the virus whether they are careful or not. What purpose does it serve to point the finger at one particular group other than to stoke up more division. We are all immigrants.

Do yoû think Trump was just unlucky or do you think the way he behaved played a factor in him contracting the virus ? Everybody like you say is capable of contracting the virus but the way we act and behave has an effect on our chances of contracting it, by saying everyone is just as likely whatever they do is helping the virus, the virus does not understand PC correctness.

A good question22 but like so many questions it is not a simple answer.

As a southerner and when I lived in my beloved Hampshire I will admit, like many on here and even some of my own family who live in Hampshire I tended to have a negative view of northern attitudes, but having now lived in East Yorkshire for 18 years etc I now see things more broadly - as they say, there is nothing like travel and living in various places to broaden your mind and rid yourself of some stereo-typing and preconceptions - though I would be a liar if I said I did not still have some.

I think the reasons for the upturn in some Northern areas are wide, but a few reasons are probably linked to:-

- the nature of some of the inner cities in terms of the terraced housing, alot more shared housing, etc
- the nature of the type of work and work patterns - alot more lower paid frontline work which many do not have a choice or option to stay at home
- the type of communities - not passing judgement but there is a different outlook and culture towards living and interaction amongst some of the communities in some of the built up areas
- a greater drinking and socialising culture
- yes, there is possibly an element of some sticking 2 fingers up at the whole issue and with it some arrogance

But, there is another dynamic. The North is being bracketed as one whole problem but rural and urban areas tend to rub shoulder to shoulder so you can go from an area with a high level of cases and just a couple of miles down the road there are barely any but the perception is that the whole of the North (whatever the North is?) is in covid crisis. I also think the weather and temperatures probably have a say. Less able to go outdoors once mid September kicked in so for pubs etc, even if they had outside spaces they became useless once the weather changed. I also think that back in March to May the problem was more London and the Southeast then with Birmingham thrown in. I think the scenario has moved regionally.

Not sure I have answered your question and if I am honest, I am not sure I have any more idea than anyone else so my response is no more than guess work - but isn't most of this?

Clearly his behaviour put him at risk as did Johnson’s.

Just read that the virus can live on a surface like a phone or a bank note for 28 days. Wonderful.

Another fact is that figures show that pubs and restaurants are responsible for only 5% of new infections.
What 'community' don't use pubs?
Why was one of the first new restrictions to be implemented that of preventing large gatherings in houses, especially those of which you do not actually reside?
And yet they still insist that the 'hospitality' is a major cause of the resurgence, and start dumping people en masse on the streets at 10pm, after being largely socially distanced within the pub/restaurant?
What is it they are actually scared to say?
