outside of the METs ridiculous 2-tier standard of policing, where they kneel/run away from BLM protesters and dance with XR protestors, versus going in heavy handed against anti-lockdown protestors and the scenes last night.

what I find incredibly strange, the same group of people - MPs, Journo's, TV personalities - who have been screeching for the last year that people MUST stay home, MUST obey the law and hound those who didn't, hound their families and demand their resignation, are now not happy that the police effectively applied the law.

The very law they have demanded to be strictly adhered to.

Jess Phillips this morning, actually damning the police, yet she voted FOR said laws and the recent extension of them. Incredible

The idea of a vigil is well reasoned, but by actually taking the ban to court, losing and then still going ahead is ridiculous

So when students decide to have a "gathering, rave, private "party" where do they stand if the court had turned round to those this weekend o, you can go ahead just this once

Agreed, the hypocrisy is breath-taking. We are looking no better than China and other authoritarian regimes. Just goes to show how fragile democracy and freedom is and how we the people should value it.

I wholly disapprove of what you say and will defend to the death your right to say it.

Last week mobs of Rangers fans wrecked Glasgows George Square as the police not only stood by but were high fiving the Rangers supporters, absolutely disgusting but thats Scotland for you.

As for the 'vigil' last night from what I am reading the victims family didn't want it, the group organising it is actually some trans rights group and women were frightened of attending anyway by literature put around by them before this event. Also the SWP were in attendance and accepted by the trans rights group as well as the misnamed antifascists. The SWP were revealed to have covered up rape and sexual assault of some of it's members and were revealed to be funded and controlled by a group of posh aristocrats.

Nobody came out of that event last night with any credit really which is a shame because we as men have to do something about the way we behave towards women and this event was a distraction and hijacked by the usual suspects, trans right extremists, the antifa and the swp

It’s a strange one. 3% of the population is black, get 50% is female. Odd the BLM thing was allowed but this wasn’t.

Exactly - if they had just called it a BLM march, the cops would have done nothing because as has been proven, the law does not apply to BLM.

Whites are less than 10% of the global population.

Read the stats.

Since when were blacks a minority?

A member of the police force is charged with murdering a woman and a few days later women come together in her memory and some are brought to the ground, handcuffed and dragged away by the police. It doesn’t send the best message does it? Elsewhere vigils went off without any problems because the police back off and showed some common sense.

The women were breaking Covid laws, so should have been photographed and fined for breaking the law. However I assume the gathering was initially peaceful, so the police should have just warned them they risk being fined for breaking Covid laws if they don't disperse. Dragging them across the floor and making arrests enflamed the situation and was the wrong response. The law could still have been upheld with fines later.

They were warned but backed the police into a corner, so the police had to act.

I wonder if the Met will be turning up at Kate Middleton’s gaff to arrest her for attending the banned vigil for Sarah Everard?

Yes they were. As did Dominic Cummings but that is not the point. The point is heavy handed policing of women doing nothing but showing their feelings about yet another woman who has been murdered by a man. That included trampling over the tributes to Sarah Everard in the process. But if you think that is perfectly ok...

Slags?

Backed into a corner? Seriously? There were other options that they could have chosen. Even Johnson and Patel are expressing concerns which should tell you something. Using violence against women who have gathered together to show their solidarity against violence against women wasn’t the smartest move was it? Especially when Sarah Everard was murdered by a police officer.

What is the point in the protest? It's a sad fact that, as long as humans have existed, there have been murders.

There are always going to be people with mental issues who end up killing, thankfully it's incredibly rare but there are always going to be some occasions where this happens.

There's no pattern of this happening with increasing regularity in London, nor of Police Officers being the cause of this, so what is the point of the protests?

They seem to have morphed into some form of #metoo / anti domestic violence rallys which are nothing to do with what happened to the woman who was murdered.

The point of the protest is that the vast majority of women have experienced harassment, often since they are barely out of puberty. If you think this is acceptable then fine but maybe ask your wife, your daughters, sisters about their experiences.

What is more concerning to me is the bill going through parliament today. Under the bill if we wanted to protest against Gao, even excluding Covid restrictions, then we cold be denied under the grounds of noise. The UK has a long and proud history of protest - many of which have shaped the society we live in today. These rights are being eroded and government ministers themselves cannot cogently justify these changes.

You seem to have missed the point. There have been countless others since then that you could have chosen that didn’t involve an asylum seeker by the way. This wasn’t just about Sarah, it was about her and all that have gone before.

Countless other? Really?

How many women, while walking home at night, have been murdered by total strangers in the past year?

The point is people need educating across the board
There are always dangers in our world but misogyny violence and racism need to stop and thats done by education of the future generation, te older one now doesn't get it, they are all still living in the 60/70s

How many incidents of domestic violence have there been? How many rapes? How many sexual assaults? Harassments? Stalkings? 118 women killed by men in the last year. You don’t think that there is a problem?
