If the rumours are to be believed then Eddie How is on a short term stop gap role judging by the players linked.

With the club unable to spend as much as they would like due to restrictions and even if they could then it would be difficult to land top class players in their current state.

So the first two to be linked with Newcastle are Aaron Ramsey just about to turn 31 and Kieron Trippier already 31.

I'm a little surprised Howe took the job, but at least he managed to get a 2.5 year deal out of them - good or bad, I guess they will pay him off regardless when they feel the time is right.

The calibre of players they would like to sign, don't want to go there for a relegation scrap, or possibly don't want to play for a manager such as Howe. So unless they pay really big wages (upsetting the current players), they have to go for older journeymen with Prem experience.

........However I did read that Coutinho at Barcelona has basically dropped tools and is doing the bare minimum at training - as he has been linked with a move to Newcastle in January.

Perhaps they want a couple of our under-performing fringe players ?

What restrictions? You can't be referring to FFP as that is over a 3 year period so plenty of cash to be playing with as they've been as careful with the pennies as us the past few seasons.

The more I look at this takeover the more I feel its destined to fail, everything about it is wrong.

I don't think what they imagine to happen and what will happen are going to align.

The only true beneficiary of this deal will end up being the most hated individual on Tyneside for the past decade or so..which in itself is rather amusing.

Did the Prem League not vote last month to block clubs from using money from sponsorship deals from parties connected to the ownership of a club? I think it was initially a temporary ban.

I recall that Man City declined to vote, NUFC voted against and the rest voted in favour.

If the other Prem clubs are opposed there is going to be a very interesting power play.

The clubs are clearly worried that NUFC could buy their way to safety and then next season who knows and in effect create a league of "have's" and a league of "have not's".

This is one step to a Euro super league in all but name when the money clubs will not want to play Burnley or Norwich or Saints, when they could be playing PSG, Juventus, Inter, Barcleona etc.

The sovereign funds behind clubs will not care a jot about football or its fans in their efforts to "sport wash" their often discriminatory regimes.

Been out of work for a while and will probably be expecting to go at the end of this season if they stay up and a "name" comes in so the pay off he gets probably won't go amiss

For Howe it's just a case of keeping them up and being jettisoned in May...he is basically getting 2.5yrs wages for 6 months...fair play to him...its a win win for Eddie.

Howe needs to raise the profile ofthe club first. If he can inject the club in January with some top 8 form - he may get to purchase some more players in July/ August.

Howe's big problem has always been his defence - he needs to recognize this and adjust his tactics accordingly -or get a better defensive coach. Events will tell us if he sorts this.

Because they are fellow former English champions - who also aren't as good as they used to be - and who are also bigger than their near neighbours.

There is nothing 'bigger ' about Little Pompey. You are 14th in League One. We are 46 places above you. Your last home gate was 1,000; ours was 30,000. That just about sums up how much bigger Southampton are than Little Pompey NOW. You are just a small club, which massively overachieved, with the help of some very dodgy characters, but has now found its level.

You are nearer in level to Havant & Waterlooville than you are to us. Southampton > Little Pompey - the difference is much greater than Newcastle > Sunderland. It's more like Newcastle > Hartlepool.

that swiss ramble fella who's far smarter than me on this stuff did a breakdown of what Newcastle could spend before they hit FFP and his believe is it's somewhere in the region of £600m over 3 years.

So they'll buy 6x players at £50 who will probably do f*ck all as Newcastle is too cold.

It really will be another Bournemouth with £50m players instead of £20m players.

Personally I think there is no doubt that Newcastle will be top 4 in the next few years.
Even if they go down this year they'll spend their way out of the Championship.

They'll spend money in January and providing they don't go down then next summer they'll start to bring in better quality. It took Man City a few seasons once the money arrived.

What is funny is the player say they are excited about it. Why ? Pretty much all of them will be shipped out, bit like when a team gets promoted to the P and the players celebrate but deep down know that they probably won't be playing!

That's funny, the average daily low temp during Winter in Newcastle is around the same as in Manchester and Liverpool and yet the big money transfers don't seem to be feeling too chilly there.
