We really do need to start signing players who have PL experience, as when you look at our previous signings from since we came back to the prem, you can see quite a clear trend of how they turned out from where we got them from.
As almost all the players we got from other PL teams/Scottish league turned out pretty decent and actually did well. As the players we signed from other PL teams or the Scottish league, almost all turned out pretty good, as KWP, Ings, S Armstrong, Van Dijk, Romeu, Bertrand, Wanyama, Davis, Clyne, Forster and maybe Redmond, Austin, Long, and Rodriguez have had their great spells with us and have turned out pretty decent, with just Walcott, Gunn and McCarthy turning out really poor their whole times here.
Whilst if you look at all the players we got from foreign teams, you can see that most turned out to be ones that I’m sure many fans will have to look on Wikipedia or such to remember them all. As with the exception of Mane, Tadic, Pelle and maybe Hojberg, Parraud, Vestergaard, Elynousie, Bednerak, Lovern and Yoshida. Basically all the signings we’ve made were pretty poor, like Lyanco, Diallo, Salisu, Djenepo, Carillo, Lemina, Hoedt, Boufal, Gabiadini, Classi, Martina, Gardos, Osvaldo, Mayuka, Gazzaniga or Ramirez.
So outta all those Scottish league/PL signings we made (17), 10 were great, 4 were iffy and just 3 were rubbish.
Whilst for the foreign leagues, outta all the signings we made (26), only 3 were great, with 7 being iffy and 16 being rubbish.
And that just sums up of why we need to sign the players who have that PL experience if we wanna stop worry about relegation, as we’re much more likely to get good signings/less likely to mess up with them, than we are when we sign foreign players from abroad. As yeah many will cost a bit more, but at the same time, if you combine the total money we’ve wasted on those poor foreign signings we made, we’d easily have enough to buy quite a few decent PL signings.
As I’m sure a few people will point out a player or two that they think should be rated higher/lower, but it still doesn’t remove the trend that they turn out much better when they’ve got Scottish league/PL experience
But whether the club do this or not is yet to be seen. [Post edited 27 May 2022 23:10]
