What single EU judge? Which Supreme Court ruling are you talking about?

ECHR is not the EU.

The whole point of a court of human rights is that it steps in when governments are ignoring people’s human rights.

The UK helped establish it and has been involved since 1951.

It stops nutters like Priti Patel doing whatever the f*ck she likes.

Like stopping sending people to Rwanda or banning abortion? Who is to say what is right or wrong? Shouldn't it be the people who decide not the courts?

So whoever the f@ck we vote, the courts decide.

That’s why there’s a convention on human rights.

All the countries involved decided what rights humans should have. The courts don’t decide on the rights, they just make sure the convention (that everyone agreed to) is followed.

We can leave the ECHR, like Russia has done.

We‘ve left the EU, why not?

We can leave the UN too. And we can revoke all the international treaties the UK has signed up to.

Then we can sit on our island doing whatever the f*ck we like.

We’ll be like North Korea, just a democratic one.

It’s really not a problem that when we sign up to an international whateveritis, sometimes we are going to be bound by things we maybe don’t like. It’s called being a grown up country rather than some kind of country-princess that cries whenever someone says it can’t do something.

In the case of abortion, where there are valid arguments on both sides or immigrants sailing to their death in the Channel or being sent to Rwanda, shouldn't the majority decide and vote for their view, rather than one unelected judge? A women who is assaulted in some states in America, now doesn't have the right to have an abortion because of the supreme court. Is that a "grown up" country or one that "cries"? Is this "human rights"? The American president doesn't back this court ruling. The people don't decide that abortion is wrong in all circumstances, the court does. You agree with a court deciding this? The courts decide not to send immigrants to Rwanda but incentivise them to cross the Channel to their death. Is this human rights? . So back the f@cking point, it doesn't matter who we vote for and what their views are on important issues, the courts decide, whoever is in power.

The Tories put up taxes and Labour are going to put them down. Who the f@ck is who? Loads voting Liberal Democrats, and what do they believe? Brexit meant making our own laws, yeah right. Democracy is no more.

Nothing new there. A typical Guardian Remainers’ view. No point in repetitively stating that view padded out with selective business sob stories. Why do you keep highlighting Guardian articles?

Brexit expected there to be a trading reduction. So this is not news. This was the price of bringing back control of our country away from the Franco German axis. Sadly trading problems are being prolonged by firstly covid and then Ukraine issues and by the ongoing lack of compromise on Ireland no doubt caused by EU keenness to dissuade other countries from leaving the EU.

Yet again we’re going round the same old dogmatic viewpoints because you don’t accept the democratic decision.

No, it’s just impossible for Brexit voters to accept that they’ve dumped a heap of sh1t on the UK.

It’s absolutely always someone else’s fault.

It won’t get you anywhere. It doesn’t change the sh1t or the cause.

We‘re not rejoining the EU but if this country is going to make this work it at least needs a bit of honesty in the mix.

Here we go again. If we are are back to that nonsense why was there a referendum in the first place? We had already democratically voted to join Europe. Again, if you remember the vote was only supposed to be advisory. Anyway…
Just because an article is in The Guardian doesn’t mean it is invalid.
As Isn says, we are currently stuck with this decision until another democratic vote is taken to rejoin, so why not be honest about the issues so at least we can try and fix them?
It doesn’t help that Johnson has cocked the whole thing up, but by ignoring the unholy mess he has made if it so far, it is not helping. Whoever the next PM is will have a hell of a job sorting this mess out along with all the other messes Johnson and his inept cabinet have created.

Back to a taxi for Boris. Apparently the Greased Piglet is thinking about a third term! How delusional can you get? Both he and Trump have such huge egos and lack any vesting E of self awareness that they can’t see when they have overstayed their welcome. How many more senior Tories have to resign before he realises that HE is the problem, not the solution?

I was replying to Soggys Guardian article. It’s like the Irish question; every time someone finds an answer the Irish change the question! Same on the ECHR when my point was an European judge overruling the British Supreme Court.

I think that is the point Bazza, it is difficult to move on when the country is hamstrung by a useless PM, a useless cabinet and a bunch of people in denial about the problems that Brexit has caused. It is looking more and more like May’s soft Brexit, which was scuppered by the likes of Johnson and Farage, was a far better option than the half baked hard Brexit that is unravelling at the moment.

And also joking aside, you'd maybe accept that while there might be a few who are politically motivated, most of them are just doing their job - which is to act in the best interests of their clients, whoever they may be, and given whatever legal avenues are open to them (and under threat of being sued for negligence or professional disciplinary proceedings if they don't do that).

A system where the only job of a lawyer is to act in the best interests of his or her client, is a pretty good starting point for a fair legal system.

Hopefully that is it for the Greased Piglet now. No doubt he will do his best to stay in office but losing two of your senior cabinet members within minutes of each other doesn’t bode well. Hopefully he will be gone soon and we can start getting back to some kind of normality.

Anyone who read anything about Johnson would know it would end this way. Never before has a man so unfit for office managed to become PM. It’s a national embarrassment which needs to end.
