| Bella Kotchap To Miss Trip To Bournemouth on 12:15 - Oct 18 with 1180 views | 1885_SFC | We're gonna have one hell of a team in the Championship next season... Bella Kotchap, Lavia, Tino, Edozie, Aribo. Throw in that level of strikers already at the club in Adams & Armstrong - and we should piss promotion straight back! Bring it on! COYS. | |

But don't panic we've lot's of ctr backs now. Problem is that none of them have been proven in the Premier Lge, but we're about to find out if they are good enough.

Am I being naive, over expectant and unrealistic? Or are you being ironic/sarcastic? Question for 1885? [Post edited 18 Oct 2022 12:28]

Definitely a hint of sarcasm in the post kernow. I think the owners have tried to build a team to compete in the PL. The trouble is, it's always our better players, Bella Kotchup, Lavia, Tino, that seem to suffer the longer term injuries. That makes us considerably weaker & we don't have the strongest squad as it is. Whatever happens, and personally speaking, for me - this season is all about staying up and nothing else.

Agree that I would settle for 17th place right now. Although relegation would be disappointing it may not be catastrophic. I don’t imagine these young players are on huge wages but keeping the better ones could be a challenge though. Talking of the possibility of relegation is a measure of how the hopes and expectations of the most optimistic fans have declined. Battered wife syndrome

I think most Saints fans would snap your hand off for 17th place right now - if it meant a season of learning & improvement for the promising young players we now have in the squad who are gaining vital PL experience under their belts. If the worst was to happen and we get relegated, you'd like to think that most, if not all, of the youngsters will stay and improve still further in the Championship... even Lavia. On the subject of staying up ; I honestly think the owners will dig deep in January & acquire from somewhere across Europe that striker that we desperately need. They were willing, after all, to splash out a fair sum for that lad from PSV. As long as we're not too far away from the pack come January, spending on a striker could be the difference between staying up or dropping down.

Do you think they'll keep with Ralph though knowing we appear to be on a downward spiral, and very negative fan base The Mail report yesterday from an outsider was quite positive and thought we did enough to at least deserve a point which could be enough for him to stay Afraid I don't as bringing on 3 or 4 subs with 10 - 15 minutes to go or whatever it was shouts of desperation, not tactical nuance And yes, I'll take 17th! Though preferably with a manager that makes me think things will improve. Of course it could just be that the players we do have are simply not good enough, full stop, and it's not Ralph's fault

Win tomorrow and I think Ralph will get a stay of execution. And it would be typical Saints to get something against Arsenal at the weekend - just as we did against Chelsea recently. Ultimately though, I do think Ralph is a dead man walking. I think the owners have already earmarked a manager (or two) from across Europe somewhere. Assuming they have, it makes more sense to replace him before the World Cup and ultimately the January window. Any new manager will need a little time to review what he's working with. Tomorrow's game at Bournemouth is going to be very telling for Ralph though - and I have a feeling the result will make the owners' minds up for them.

In the 27 years that the PL's been in existence, if you amalgamate the top 3 divisions, our average finishing position has been 17.1.

I know people on here have views about Talksport and their sensationalism, but when doing the odds etc on who goes first and Ralph gets a frequent mention, but it was said there are apparently a queue to be interviewed mainly from the German leagues Clearly they follow his career with his Germanic routes
