I think we can build a team around Downes, and signing him could be transformational for our hopes of having a good season.
Obviously we would still need players in a number of other key positions, but he would be such a brilliant signing that I would be prepared to sacrifice KWP (who I hugely admire) to get him in. | |

Assume KWP stayed last year on the agreement that he can leave now. Can't begrudge him that, next season will in all likelihood be another relegation battle so no issues with him moving to a top half team. |  |

Spurs, I could understand (he does support them after all) but I suspect West Ham might struggle a little bit next season. It would be sad if he leaves as he has been great for us and comes across a good bloke too. |  |

Problem is KWP is in last year of his contract so the choice is to let him go now & get something for him ( or player exchange) or keep him & lose him for nothing at the end of next season.
