Southampton At Everton The Carabao Cup Verdict on 14:02 - Sep 18 with 1359 views | SonicBoom | I'm genuinely baffled how we have so much possession but do so little with it. Secondly for those that saw the match, Lallana seems to have played well and people say he's being saved for Saturday- yet the report says we improved and had more control once he was replaced by Fernando's. So on Saturday do we play Lallana, or Fernando's, or both?

Not sure we would play with both, we know we will get about 30 mins from Lallana, 45 mins tops, I would start Fernandes and then bring on Lallana. I think we got better as the game went on and Fernandes was helped by the introduction of the likes of Dibling and Downes on the hour mark

Fernandes and Lallana play completely different roles though. Fernandes is more the Stuart Armstrong replacement we were after, who will make attacking runs to support the striker. Lallana reminds me a lot of Modric playing for Croatia; he takes the ball from the CB's and keeps the ball moving. He's a very clever player TBF, but he needs runners around him. I think Lallana is more of a replacement for Les Ugo or Downes.

Lallana is not a holding player or tackler, yes he picks up the ball deep, but essentially he and Fernandes play in the same position, one is more about surging forward and attacking and the other these days is about using the ball. Both need Downes and Big Les behind them

No way is Lallana a replacement for Downes or Big Les.

| We thought that we had the answers,
It was the questions we had wrong. |

Essentially yes, you would not call either a holding midfielder would you, but they can play different variations on it and in other positions
