Lies, damned lies and President Felon. 11:10 - Mar 20 with 2226 viewssaint901

We are seeing in the USA a situation develop which mirrors, exaggerates and give credence to a growing problem in Europe (although I like to think that Europeans are a little less obvious about it).

President Felon believes that he has absolute authority to do as he wishes. He thinks that the US constitution - 250 years old next year - is something that he can ignore, overwrite or break without consequence.

When he does break the law and a Judge says "don't do that", they are labelled as "partisan activists" by him and his appointed morons.

This looks to be a set up to Felon either removing Judges who dare to disagree with him or flooding the Courts with Judges who actually are activist but for him and his party. (And it is "his" party, not that of Republican voters).

And this version of the thought police acting on his instructions continues to spread. A French professor was this week denied entry to the US, his phone and laptop taken and out on a plane back to France. His "crime"? He disagreed with the Felon's dismemberment of a US research facility and said so in a scientific paper.

And every day we see stories of ICE (aka the Trump shock troops) taking matters into their own hands and treating people with valid and legal visas, green cards and US citizenship, like criminals.

I really cannot believe that the Felon had sufficient mental bandwidth to take personal offence at the examples above not indeed any capacity to understand the damage he is causing the US reputation worldwide. This is clearly the work of those who surround him wishing to kiss is ar$e

For example, the US negotiator in Ukraine has said that the drone attacks from Russia YESTERDAY did not happen because Putin has said he would not do that. An absolute lie that he knows he will not receive criticism from the Felon for because that is what the Felon wants to hear.

The Felon, in his actions, is giving a green light to similar factions in Europe. Hungary, Romania, arguably Italy. We of course have our own versions but we've effectively made Truss a laughing stock to be disregarded and Farage is more interested in silencing his own party than helping his constituents.

I can only hope that the weight of the lies and falsehoods being used to support the Felon eventually bring him down before the various European copycats can gain control or credence because when Ukraine is raped and handed over to Russia, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania will be next unless Europe can carry enough threat.

I was planning a trip to the US in the summer but have changed my mind.

Don't fancy a spell incognito in a US immigration centre because my socks are the wrong colour.

Will probably go to Canada instead. Be good to get there before the US invasion.

We are going the US and Canada!

We have family on the East Coast and from where they live, Quebec is about a 6 hour drive and we've long considered going there and down to Toronto and back to Maine. So we've booked it and hope that the Felon's morons will be confused by our accents.

Sounds like a great trip (if you can keep your head down!)

My thought at the moment is to go to Toronto and then take a few days train ride over to The Rockies.

Oh why dont you boys go together? You could burn MAGA caps around the camp fire each evening while singing odes to the Clintons and pledging eternal allegiance to kamala and Zelinski.

Presumably they would have a portable bioethanol fire lest they upset the Goddess Gaia and she strike them down.

I watched the Italian drama about Mussolini recently - son of the century - and it's actually incredible just how many of the things the original Fascist did that Trump is also doing.

If you actually look at history, and look at the definition of Fascism as written by Umberto Eco, it seems to me there is absolutely no doubt of what the Trump regime is now. I'm just surprised that more people aren't naming it correctly.

I guess partly that'll be down to the fact a lot people get the politics wrong and think Nazism and Fascism are the same thing when they're not. From the same roots and an extension of each other certainly, but to be a fascist doesn't automatically mean to be a nazi.

East or west coast you are fine

In simple terms

A man not even born in the country joins their army does a bit of fighting

Becomes a Politician eventually takes over the Country and becomes the absolute leader with no opposition.

Invades most of mainland Europe and bits of Africa.

Slaughters large numbers of these countries inhabitants and many soldiers both his and the enemy are killed and maimed.

Stops short of invading England.

Tries to make his country the supreme ruler of an empire

Invaded Russia instead, get stopped by the Russian winter and forced to retreat in disarray.

Now on the back foot forced to retreat to the capital, with the enemy now in the outskirts of the city it all ends.

Now this could be Napoleon or it could be Hitler, Napoleon did make a short comeback, he abdicated rather than shot himself.

So why is Napoleon considered a hero in France still, and not vilified as Hitler rightly is, the only real difference between them was that Napoleon did not have the modern science to destroy those in front of him that he hated on an industrial scale.

Pretty basic I know but roughly speaking true

One of the problems is that the fascists have successfully played this line that comparing anything to Nazis/Fascists is lazy and boring. 'Yawn, not another comparison to Hitler - do me favour' that sort of thing.

But the trouble is, as you say, the playbook being used is exactly the one used in the first half of the 20th century, so the comparisons are fair enough.

I think the US will be lucky to survive a second Trump term as a constitutional democracy. It will probably turn on how deeply baked in a commitment to liberty and the US constitution truly is. It will probably also turn on the integrity of the Supreme Court judges. I have a faint hope that even those wrong'uns appointed by Trump might at some point hold the line. You can get the unlikeliest of heroes at times like this - Mike Pence, for example.

And it's telling that anyone historian with a deep understanding of the twentieth century knows exactly what's going on. Timothy Snyder's 'Bloodlands' is one of the best books I've ever read. He has got Trump et al's numbers. Has so for many years now.

Napoleon is looked at with admiration for his skill in battle and he did bring some achievements such as Napoleonic code. I see what you mean however about one being seen as a “great man” in history. Napoleon, it must be remembered, was the bad guy in the world until Hitler. No one has replaced Hitler. When they do, the devil incarnate will be this person for the next 80 years and people will most likely lose reference of Nazis, as they have done for most history.

Hitler wasn’t respected. Napoleon, even on Saint Helena, was sent books to read by British politicians and had English friends; to the point where he requested to live in Britain.

Napoleon was a great General, that cannot be ignored, perhaps it was an age where chivalry was still in place.

I don't think Hitler will ever be replaced, however a few people seem to be fancying their chances these days

Hitler can be replaced only if an expansionist leader with evil views took over a strong country like a Germany, US or France. All links to Hitler in the past: Nasser, Saddam, Putin, Netanyahu don’t have the power to inflict worldwide war to the scale of 30s Germany. For now, the safety nets are still in place to stop this.

No good Sir you do me down, I am of the foulest nature, an agent provocateur no less, I have dared to think outside the Overton window and for that indiscretion I must be forever cancelled by higher minds than mine, those forged by enlightened scholars, whose shoes I am not worthy to lace. My punishment is secure Good Sir, I am forever to be anathema to the good liberals of this land, who to be sure have a steadfast monopoly on truth. Do not take my punishment from me Sir, my only choice now is to spend the rest of my earthly days upon my belly as the serpent in total deserved humiliation. The die is indeed cast and I shall not permit rescue.
