Good piece in that papers last week explaining why Tesla is in trouble commercially before you take into account the political affiliations of President Musk.
Outdated design, lack of production capacity, poor build quality, product recalls, lack of attention from the narcissist, etc.
It's not just the political issues that is driving the stock price down.
In the last few days there are reports of a "pump and dump" effort to stop brokers shorting the stock. At best that is a very short term (few days) plan and the market will prevail.

With Trump’s 25% tariff on cars, is it time that we stopped buying Teslas? on 13:27 - Mar 27 with 1275 views
Amusing that the share prices of American car manufacturers tumbled last night after Trump's idiotic announcement.
The fact that most of the cars made in America rely on parts from overseas, and that those parts are also going to have the 25% tariff applied to them, appears to have been utterly lost on the clown.
Yep. The Felon says that America should make its own cars from scratch.
I'm entirely clueless as to the time it takes to built a factory and the all the tooling infrastructure needed, contracts to import raw materials, hiring labour etc, but I'd guess three to five years.
At a time when as you say the value of car companies is falling which will impact their ability to raise capital and fund new plant.
The Oval office definitely needs an adult in room when these announcements are made.

I think it would take 5 years minimum to get it up and running but what it would also need would be proper experience from within the industry which comes at and absolute premium and there is no substitute for it. You’d need so much to even hit the ground walking let alone running.
Who knows though, when the idiot son of a space hopper realises what the tariffs will do to the industry in the current car industry USA as they still have to import parts and raw materials perhaps if we can negotiate a tariff free special relationship that keeps being talked about then maybe it would be a real boost to our export industry as we could be far more competitive on prices than any other country, but who knows with the village idiot in charge out there…
You could buy a 5 y/o all electric Porsche Taycan for about the same money as some of the new plastic Teslas - I know which I’d rather have, if I had that much to spend on a car that is…

Has there been any reaction from any of the US manufacturers regarding this tarrif as surely they can see that, if of course any of them would dare speak out against anything the Donald would do?

I watched his announcement last night as GB News were showing it in full, live - which the other news channels weren't. I flick through all the news channels, no bias, just whatever has ACTUAL news on at the time (i.e. I don't mean guests squabbling, or silly magazine articles).
Anyway, Trump was ridiculous, just 10 mins or so of complete crap, if you can find it, watch it. I would be so embarrassed if I were American. From what I can remember is him waffling "there will be jobs, good, many jobs, we will build the factory, many jobs, good jobs, we will build the cars, good American jobs, we will give some tax back on the purchase of an American made car, there will be good job, many jobs" etc etc etc

Fking lunatic.
I also saw it, again randomly flicking on to GB News, as I sometimes do for comedy.
He must be utterly impossible to deal with if you are trying to offer anything resembling a sensible opinion to him.

Interesting alternative view.
Perhaps you can enlighten us as to exactly how you think Trump placing tariffs on trade is “looking out for his country” ?
Asking on behalf of all muppets, right, left or centre.
Any chance you could also provide us with a code to decipher “ the lying Two tier lying TW@ we have here!!! ?

He’s not looking after his country at all.
He is appealing to the 50% or so of the US population who lack the education to realise that this folly is completely self-harming.
To give him a tiny bit of credit, it’s quite clever politics. It appeals to the numbskull following that he has. Until it helps bring on a major recession.

I worked with many American rednecks like Trump in oil & gas overseas. Opinionated, arrogant gobshites and thick as pig shit.
I work in the US a lot and the issue here is that all they care about is money So Trump promises that US workers & industry will earn more and be better off under him tahts all they hear They have no concern for foreign relations, morals, war mongering etc and so forth its how much they get paid. Its a little different on East and West coasts but generally thats the issue First time around everyone was shocked now it all feels a bit like a spectacle and everyone knows he talks endless guff but does whatever he wants so they have to see it out

The idea that Trump Regime is looking after his country is proper batsh*t, tariffs increase the cost on US consumers, increase inflation, cost jobs and increase the chance of recession.
Hell even Ferris Bueller's day off managed to grasp this, so how the hell anyone else can't is beyond me.
The only thing Trump is doing is enriching billionaires and placating Russia. He has zero interest in either the country or the people in it.

Time to stop buying Teslas, Apple products, anything from Amazon, ebay, stop using social media, FB, X, Instagram and anything else exploiting offshore tax loopholes. A 3-4 month holiday would certainly get the attention of the monied power brokers that are running the USA.Especially if the rest of Europe followed suit.
Also, Starmer should NOT place the impending order for US made F35 fighter bombers that will increase our dependence on these crack head politicians.

We already have 37 F35's delivered from an initial order of 48.
Add to that we have just recently taken delivery of the 48th, 49th and 50th Boeing Apache attack helicopters from the USA - and you can see that the Yanks do alright out of it. And then there's Trident. Although the warheads are made in the UK, the missiles themselves are made in America.
No wonder two-tier is trying to negotiate a separate tariff deal with old Donny.
