| Refwatch - Rochdale v Southend United on 17:56 - Dec 4 with 5417 views | jonahwhereru | Have a feeling this will be a tight game. They have scored four less than us and conceded 3 more, having played one more game. This game is really important for Southend, if they loose and go 14 points behind the top of the league having played a game more if think the playoffs would be their on avenue to get promotion. The local rag here has confirmed that the centre half Goodliffe has declared himself fit yesterday after 3 weeks out. I think he’ll start, but clearly won’t be match fit. The striker Kendall is likely to be in the match day squad for the first time since a hamstring injury September. I'll be shocked if he plays more than about an hour, even if he starts. Maher is suggesting that they are not sure if Dallas will be available (think he is keeping McNulty guessing) but a week to recover from a hamstring issue is very very quick. While Parllion and Appiah Forson are also doubts. They say if you stop the right wing back Scott Morrison you stop Southend. I asked my season ticket holder mate how best to do that with a blocker or an attacking wing back to subdue him. He suggested a blocker, but to be honest I’m not sure. That will be the key positional decision for Jim. They have not beaten a team above them this season. If we mind our business we should beat them. UTD | | | |

Interesting, especially about their main threat being a right-wingback Our left side is the one area which remains relatively unsettled, when everyone's fit. We have Allarakhia who obviously is more a threat and in decent form right now but weaker on the defensive side of things. Galvin on loan is an unknown but with Beckwith at the back the issue is whether JM opts to try to nullify Southend or takes the game to them Another option could be Burger, but my preference would be start with Pritchard in that wide role and leave Allarakhia till later in the game if needed. If Pritchard can stay fit, he'd be the last piece in the jigsaw

Agreed. Scott Morrison was there top scorer last season and got plenty of assists. Note this season he only has 3 goals and three assists so far. Maybe teams have got a handle on how to deal with him.

Scott-Morriss maybe not at the same level as last year but would trust starting with either Allarakhia or Pritchard there and be confident bringing either on as a sub would be fine too. If we’re winning, would expect Galvin to come on. They’ve just re-signed Caldwell on loan from FGR. [Post edited 4 Dec 20:12]

Though the chances of him ever scoring 17 in a season again are v slim. Andrew Dallas has allegedly got a class 1 ACL, and of course we wouldn't have used that to persuade the Board to cough up for a move for Harry Cardwell would we? Anyway, we will turn up and give you a game, supported by a largish chunk of traveling Shrimpers. Hopefully we won't have any of the silliness that we got at the vegetables last Saturday. Savage certainly knows how to wing up the opposition.

Dale got a 30 minute look at Cardwell when we played FGR, which is useful for us. If Dallas has an ACL I presume he has gone back to Barnsley, is it? My brother in law is one of that “chunk” on the supports coaches. I hope it’s him rather than me who is disappointed with the result tomorrow, after a good contest of course. Safe journey for all tomorrow Shrimper.

| Refwatch - Rochdale v Southend United on 15:15 - Dec 6 with 3712 views | dawlishdale | If last season taught us anything, it was that they will press us in midfield. We started as if we didn't expect this at all and they have deservedly taken the lead following slack play down the our right. Hoping for a good response from us. | | | |
| Refwatch - Rochdale v Southend United on 15:50 - Dec 6 with 3481 views | dingdangblue | Should be at least 2-0 down there. Very poor half from us - not the conditions for us to pass it around but we can't play any other way. Hopefully we can create 1 chance and get away lucky with a 1-1 draw. | |

| Refwatch - Rochdale v Southend United on 15:51 - Dec 6 with 3470 views | isitme | Poor first half. Not created enough and pay the penalty for a poor pass into midfield by the keeper. Should bring Pritchard and Barlow on as soon as possible. | | | |
| Refwatch - Rochdale v Southend United on 15:53 - Dec 6 with 3440 views | dawlishdale | Looks like men against boys such is their complete dominance. Got to question the selection today in heavy conditions ( not that Southend are struggling) . Surely Pritchard and Barlow have to come on at half time. Galvin and McBride have been poor whilst East and Beckwith are well below par. Cmon Dale...we haven't shown up yet. | | | |

It's like we've been too pre-occupied with Southend and forgotten about our own game. Why isn't Pritchard starting? Why no Barlow. Picked the wrong team and Mani is on his own. Surely the second half can't be worse. [Post edited 6 Dec 17:54]

| Refwatch - Rochdale v Southend United on 16:26 - Dec 6 with 3155 views | dawlishdale | Different game this half. Very fortunate equaliser but we could have had another by now. Still feel the subs mentioned by almost everyone would strengthen us. We have to be mindful that Southend finish games strongly. | | | |
| Refwatch - Rochdale v Southend United on 17:22 - Dec 6 with 2227 views | 442Dale | It was pretty obvious not long after the second half started that it wasn’t going to finish and the ref probably should have called it when Broome nearly came unstuck after the ball initially got, er, stuck! Pitch may have contributed to Beckwith’s injury too, that looks like it could be a bad one. Fingers crossed. On the football side of things, great response after the break. Lots of passion and we actually started to play the conditions. We might have actually learnt something from an otherwise write off of a day. | |

| Refwatch - Rochdale v Southend United on 17:55 - Dec 6 with 1787 views | Daley_Lama | 100% right decision to abandon. 100% not what we wanted for obvious reasons. 100% gratitude to ref for giving groundstaff the opportunity to try to sop it. 0.01% chance of that being possible with the whole pitch and continuing rain. 100,000,000% Thanks to the groundstaff, coaches, pub landlord and all involved in the failed, but admirable effort to get game resumed. Onto the game. Guess what, first 15 minutes Southend played the high press, swarmed all over our backline and pressured for mistakes. Sound familiar? Why yes, we saw this in the playoffs last season. Our 15 minutes of pass the parcel along the backline only resulted in being 1 down. After that we remembered we could play more than one style and looked ok up until HT, with a few half chances. Second half was far better with Taryn being the catalyst. We were constantly on the front foot and pressured on them to make mistakes told. Both goals were aided by the pitch to be absolutely fair. Their keeper got his flippers wedged under the paddling pool edge and then Jeremy Guscott tried a short pass in the deep end that went about 6 inches. When it gets replayed i hope we remember the first 15 and learn from it. Oh well, still top with FG only drawing. Safe trip home Southend fans. | |

The Southendplayoff loss was not because of how we chose to play and their press. It was poor substitutions by the manager and a subsequent loss of shape. We played much better in the first half of that game than today. We flew out of the traps with Rodney’s goal and responded after they equalised with Burd’s header. What made zero sense today was trying to play our normal game around our box when it was obvious we couldn’t play at the required pace because of the pitch. Every pass took that split second more to reach its destination. But yeah, they sorted that after half time.

Many teams try to do that. We want them to, so we can then play through it. That’s why we produced in the first half that day. Today it was silly to continue to attempt it because of the aforementioned issues with the pitch slowing it all down.

Their manager demonstrating lack of bounce in the centre circle and our squeegee chap running over and squeegeeing then repeating the bounce test successfully. The Southend staff member throwing water ONTO the pitch near the half way line. Groundstaff genuinely not bothered about rolling the beep out of areas with knowledge that tomorrow is rip up day. Cannot thank those chaps enough for demonstrating Team Rochdale spirit.
