I get where you're coming from, but it's a balance. At the moment if a player is too good for our Dev Squad we have to loan them out or they stagnate, but we then lose control over the quality of training, whether they get picked, how they play - Emmerson Sutton's Morecombe experience a prime example of that, out of the team for much of it or playing RB for an absolute shambles of an outfit. He would have the opportunity to continue his development here while still playing more competitive and higher quality games of football, until the point where we find a better loan option for him. Players would also get better opportunities on loan coming from a Cat 1 as well.

I'm definitely not proposing a return to the Rafferty Pedder days, where we keep 22 year olds on our books just for the sake of it.

Just watched the U18s destroy Oxford, so very much agreed our youth teams need to be at the higher level to develop at a higher level!

Good point as well, hopefully the higher status leads to better loans.

Although, a loan to a sh1tty club could show a kid that they need to kick on if they don't want to be getting changed in Portcabins with cr4p showers for the rest of their lives!

Brentford applied for Cat 1 in September, Fulham have been Cat 1 for about a decade and Chel***'s academy has always been first rate if you're prepared to tolerate a bit of casual racism from Gwynn Williams and Rixy.

Makes Les and Ramsey seem slightly incompetent now which pains me as I love les but seemed like they were both against this happening ?

Poll: Now it’s slightly clearer cut who do you want as manager ?

time will tell if they were right or not. Category 1 is not a magic wand, it helps but you still need good coaches and very giood recruitment to get the best players in

Correct. It's not the be all and end all.
Other (more high profile?) Clubs can still poach our best. The compensation would be higher. But not by.much?
It's still a good news story but the great unknown is the cost of moving from 2 to 1. Both initially and year on year. If it really is just the cost of a domed pitch, then that may not be extortionate. If you have to add 20+ full time staff then that only pays off if you produce an Eze every other year.

Think we will need to provide manned accommodation as well.

It used to be covered pitches , on site teaching , and accommodation . Unless we are planning on expanding the training ground I’m not sure how we are going to fit it all in to the present site .

And the cost won’t impact PSR, as far as I’m aware, and Ruben will, you’d hope, convert it the debt to equity again, so, in effect, it’s basically of no commercial impact to the club. That’s why he’s an owner I would be very wary seeing replaced…

I wouldn't compare him to Jim Gregory, but honestly I struggle to think of any other owner we've had since Gregory to match Ruben.

(I'm not about to start a cult of Ruben as God/Saint either, but one of the good things about him is that he doesn't seem to want that either.)

On what is needed for the club to apply for Cat 1, I just noticed this on WLS: https://www.westlondonsport.co The new development would see the construction of a new floodlit full-size pitch and stand and an indoor artificial pitch for the use of pre-academy and schoolboy players in addition to Under-10 to Under-16 girls’ age groups.

I am not sure that we have mastered pitches.
