A very important fixture for Saints

make no bones about it the Boxing Day fixture at the Valley is very important and a defeat for Saints whilst not being a catastrophe will be a very big blow.

Last season Saints failed in their promotion aspirtations, not because of a 10 point deduction, not because of having to gel a new side with a new manager, but because they did not win enough football matches to get enough points, end of, if leeds could get in the play offs with a 15 point deduction, it should have been well within Saints grasp to do so with a mere 10.

One of the main problems for Saints though was their failure to take enough points on the grounds of the top six, of those half dozen games on the road Saints lost three, drew two and won only one, five points from six games was just not good enough and that has to change.

Personally Im sick to death of hearing excuses why we arent winning games, things are not right with the squad that is plain to see and now we need to start seeing improvements and results especially away from home.

Although we are only two points off the play offs, 10th position is not good enough, given our squad in both quality and quantity, the cash we have spent and the facilities that we have, both Nigel Adkins and the squad now have to start proving themselves and are fast losing breathing space to do so.

Saints should be capable of at least a point against Charlton, in truth they should be winning and winning well, the next few weeks will start to sort the wheat from the chafe, we need to be in the top six minimum come the end of January, in fact we should be looking at top two or at least within a point of it, anything less and i fear that the gamble in sacking Pardew and the time spent to appoint a new man, might prove to be a massive own goal.
