Interview with a Bradford City fan

By popular request, we've grabbed hold of the nearest Bratfud fan and thrown our usual ten questions in their directions and got some fantastic answers chucked back at us.

1 Who are ya?

Hi I’m Steve, better known as Norman Corner or Thrupennybithead on the footie forums. The usernames are dedicated to my favouritist player in the WURLD, that being the Bratfud City legend of the early 70’s Mr Norman Corner. Norman was 8’ 14” but could only jump to about 5’ 2” to head the ball. He was known to pop a few light bulbs in the floodlights with his misdirected headers, hence the ‘thrupennybithead’

2 Our manager reckons anyone who doesn't think you're favourites has something wrong with them. Is he right?

THE favourites is a little strong I feel and I would say ONE of the favourites is nearer the mark. Your manager however is a very wise man and anyone who doesn’t rate our chances must be Radio Rental.

3 Is McCall under any pressure from the boot if he doesn't deliver this season? Surely he'd have got the sack last time round had he not been a City legend from his playing days?

Stuart McCall is a legend and will always remain so, unless we end up in the fourth division for as long as Rochdale. Crikey! ..the man can sup ale and fall off of car roofs ……he doesn’t  have to be a success at managing …..I’d forgive him even if he slept with my wife.

4 Who's been the pick of the Summer signings?

Micheal Boulding is obviously the headliner, having scored a shed load for a poor Mansfailed outfit and Graeme Lee already looks like he can do a useful job in filling the very large shoes vacated by David Weatherall, but my pick has got to be Paul McClaren. The wannabe scousers at Tranmere were very upset to loose his services he was that good. Being the top assister of goals in league one last season is testament to that.

5 Is the signing of Rory Boulding as odd as it seems? Was he really signed for reasons other than to keep his brother company?

Well on the face of it, it did look like he was signed as a sweetener to keep his brother happy but if pre season and reserve matches are anything to go by, it looks like he could be a very good prospect indeed.

6 Does playing top flight football in recent memory make it a little difficult to celebrate wins over the likes of Macclesfield?

Not on your Nellie! …ok, beating Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool will always remain lasting memories, but we’re back in the ‘Rochdale’ league now. The only way we will ever see the dizzy heights of the Championship and Premier again is by beating the likes of  Macclesfield and Morecambe (no disrespect intended)

7 Is there a danger of the Leeds game overshadowing this game?

Not a cat in hells chance, ….doubt many of our fans have heard of a team called L**ds, let alone that we’re playing ‘em in the ‘paint by numbers’ trophy

8 Dale did the double over City last season. What stood out for you for Dale?

Dale were a hard working side who could play it on the deck which is refreshing in the basement league. The Albino was the top man in both games although a number of Dale players also took the eye including Le Fondre. The best side seen at Valley Parade last season.

9 We've stuck a joint Dale & Bradford XI on the site. What memories do you have of any of those players?

Lee Todd was a member of the squad which won us promotion to the Premier and for that reason alone he will be regarded at Valley Parade in my opinion.

Mark Leonard never scored many goals but I for one loved his 100% all action displays.

Peter Costello was only a fringe player at Bratfud, best known for being in the same side as Greig Abbott ……erm Abbott and Costello …are you having that one?

Lee Duxbury ….considered to be a legend at Valley Parade for his tigerish midfield displays …A poor mans Stuart McCall if you like.

Joe Cooke …equally adept at both centre FORRAD and centre half. I lived just around the corner from Joe in Buttershaw Estate, Bradford. I used to play Doms with his Dad in the local Working Mens Club …his Dad was a cheating bugger. Joe now owns a gym locally and doesn’t look a day older than he did when he was playing at Dale and Bratfud.

Terry Dolan …As a player he was brilliant, never missed a penalty at City and he took 17 FARSEND of ‘em. As a manager he was treated very harshly by a number of clubs including City. He was a gnats cock hair from guiding us into what is now the Premier league. We eventually missed out in the play offs to Middleboro after having looked odds on to get an automatic spot. The then chairman refused to back him with a couple of signings he asked for and then sacked him the following season.

10 It's customary to finish with a prediction. So do you think Cheryl Cole will prove to be an adequate replacement for Sharon Osbourne on X Factor?

I hate Sharon Osbourne …..I have to turn the sound down on the telly when she is coming out with her usual condescending clap trap ….in fact I hate her more than L**ds. I predict Cheryl Cole will do a far better job. Another prediction Bratfud 2 – 1 Rochdale
