RamBites: Glick Kills Oakley Deal? Bywater Emergency & Hero Hendrick!
RamBites: Glick Kills Oakley Deal? Bywater Emergency & Hero Hendrick!
Tuesday, 20th Sep 2011 14:47 by Daniel J Sewart

James Bailey will miss months of action through injury and the Rams need to sign midfield reinforcements - but the Matt Oakley loan deal reportedly fell through when Tom Glick discovered the player's expected wages.

Glick Won't Pay The Price!?

If you believe mirrorfootball.co.uk (which although at times is fun, might be our first mistake) - Nigel Clough was in the process of securing Oakley on loan until Glick and Co. put a stop to the move when they checked the price tag.

Clough was hoping to get the deal done for the player who although had some miles on the clock, was still more than capable of producing some quality handling on the road.

When the powers that be discovered that the used midfield rental would cost them £4,000 a week - they reportedly refused the request and asked Nigel to instead return to the budget bicycle store that they prefer that he shops at.

The Mirror also suggested that Oakley was so keen to get the deal done and find a way back to Pride Park Stadium - he was willing to waive his appearance bonus which is part of his contract at the Foxes.

Suffice to say the counter-offer was also rejected and the deal now looks dead.

Although the source is not the most respected – it would not be much of a stretch to believe that the information it contains could be true.

Sources from all over were happy to state the deal was on and that Oakley was heading for a definite return to Pride Park Stadium.

Various reports on BBC Radio Derby have had the deal as good as done a couple of times – only for nothing to eventuate. Rumours are one thing but the team at the local BBC are very rarely wide of the mark when they run with a story such as this with such confidence.

So the only conclusion?.... Something went wrong!

That something seems to be that money would need to be spent which seems to be a no-no for Nigel even as he desperately needs to strengthen his squad.

5 wins and 2 Losses, a manager and players blossoming, the best start to a season in over a century and fans that are on the verge of coming down with a serious dose of positivity. Fiscal responsibility is one thing but it would be terrible if that was all wasted.

It seems Tom Glick will give it his best shot.

Bywater Gives a Hoot!

Sheffield Wednesday has come in for Stephen Bywater and signed the Rams keeper on a 93 day emergency loan deal to cover Nicky Weaver who is currently injured.

The former Derby number one stopper fell from grace spectacularly last season amidst rumours of dissent and a falling-out with Nigel.

With the deal announced today perhaps with his supposed large wage demands off the books for a while – the Rams could use the saving to get someone in.

But that’s just crazy talk isn’t it!?

Hero Hendrick The Best In The League

The official site reported today that Jeff Hendrick has been named in the npower Championship's 'Team of the Week'.

At the tender age of 19 the Rams' tree-cutting midfielder chose the best time to score his first ever goal for the club.

With only 5 starts under his belt - it is a major achievement for the youngster to be named one of the best in the whole league for the week.

RamZone congratulates Jeff on the achievement - and may it be the first of many.

Till next we bite!

Not sure that RD ever reported the deal 'as good as done'; they were confirming an interest in Matt but it always subject to the Foxes co-operating.

Sven acted in the same slow and obstructive way that he had over the Waghorn affair and was on air last week saying Matt had trained well and was part of his plans and that there 'was nothing in it' regarding Oakley's switch to Derby.

Look elewhere, I'd say - but do it soon and seize the moment, whilst the Rams have momentum and are an attractive destination for players!
