Green day for Warnock!
Green day for Warnock!

Warnock makes it two in 24 hours by signing Derby's Paul Green on a free.

Neil Warnock added his third summer signing to his ranks by confirming long- held speculation that Paul Green was Elland Road bound.

Green emerged as a target for Leeds at the back end of last season and having rejected a new deal at Pride Park, the 29-year-old has today agreed a two-year deal at Elland Road.

Green appeared to be in-and-out of the Derby side under Nigel Clough, however chatting to Derby fans and listening to their radio "moan in" after our Boxing Day defeat last season, he was quite well regarded in the East Midlands with some predicting a Premier League side making a cheeky bid for him in January. His preferred position is central midfield but he can operate as a right-back.

Capped by Ireland 12 times, his last appearance being a sub in Eire's 4-0 horror show against the Spanish last Thursday, Green qualifies for the Irish due to his Grandmother. However he is effectively coming "home" as he was born in Pontefract and began his career with Doncaster Rovers making 277 appearances for the Keepmoat outfit.

I am much more enthusiastic about this signing than Adam Drury's yesterday. There were fears that Huddersfield may have hijacked the move as Leeds finances seemed to be in a state of flux, but last weeks little tete-a-tete in Monaco between Warnock and our beloved chairman seems to have ironed out a few little anxieties regarding Leeds ability to bring in the men Warnock wants.

Green's participation in the Euros may also have held up the deal.

It appears we are still some way off actually paying out a transfer-fee like the one we did for first signing Jason Pearce, but who knows? Warnock might bring in another Bosman free before the weekend-El Hadj Diouf maybe?
