What the two managers had to say after the Swans and Southend drew at Roots Hall

Roberto Martinez

“At this stage of the season it’s a point gained. Roots Hall is a very difficult place to come. Southend, in the type of form that they are in, are a very difficult team to play.

“You have to remember that we played last Saturday and on Tuesday as well and at this stage of the season the energy is a huge factor and, under these circumstances, I thought the boys applied themselves well.

“Jason is not suffering from burn-out. He had three shots today off target and the penalty against the wind which he scored.

“Jason held the ball up really well, he occupied both the centre-halves for the whole game. I think he was a tower of strength for us and he gives us a starting point to start playing our football from.

“Our approach is exactly the same although there are eight games left. There are big challenges at home and away and we look forward to every one.

“As a club, we keep trying to progress in certain departments and that’s what we are doing.”

Steve Tilson

"It was a tough game and the conditions made it hard

"You had two good footballing sides and it made it difficult to get ball down and play.

"Overall though, we created enough chances to have won the game.

"The lads showed great energy and there is a lot of belief here.

"I was disappointing not to have taken three points, but we are on a good run of form.

"We can't be too down today because we were playing against a top side and a point is not a bad result.

"It was a fantastic delivery by Charlie and a great header by Hal at the end of the first half for us to score.

"It was a good time for us to equalise and to be honest, throughout the match I thought we looked dangerous from set pieces.

"I thought we should have had a second half penalty when Lee Barnard was pulled back in the box, but the referee didn't see it.

"We have to keep believing in ourselves and it will be no different on Monday at Swindon, in what will be another tough game - especially away from home."
