Saints V Barnsley The Preview

Saints will have to shore up a leaky defence if they want to get a result on Saturday.

Last season Saints beat Barnsley with relative ease, however this season it may be a lot different, the problem is that Saints just cant seem to defend and its not surprising given the few options they currently have at the back.

Crucial to whether Saints can start to put a promotion push together is the manager signing a centre back, at time or writing the rumour mill is that we will have one signed up and ready to play with Christian Dailly from West Ham being the  alledged soon to be Saint.

But the problem is with Burley at the moment is that you just dont know what little surprises he might spring, and not always for the best.

On Saturday incoming defenders excepted, he has several areas to consider, firstly at the back whether to recall Alexander Ostlund, to the fans this is a no brainer as the Swede is the only right back at the club, George either has to ship him in or ship him out, problem is that would mean no place for Jermaine Wright.

Should Be Recalled

In midfield there should be only one place up for grab on Saturday and that is out wide, Nathan Dyer is sure to play he is looking good in the past few games, but on the other flank Andrew Surman has been out of sorts and his replacement Adam Hammill on Wednesday looked sharp.

Sharp

It would be ironic if Surman doesnt play as last season he was the Man of the match against the Tykes hitting a hat trick in the process so it would be harsh to leave him out this term.

But its up front the questions will be asked, will Burley once again rotate his strikers, BWP is scoring why drop him and so is Rasiak, the key here is to play your in form players and make the substitutions at the right time, on Wednesday bringing on Saganowski with only injury time left was pointless, he should have been on at least 15 minutes earlier.

Why Isnt He Playing ?

Saints have the opportunity to get the show back on the road on Saturday, George Burley has the chance to show that he has spotted our weaknesses and is dealing with them by bringingf in a centre back and he can also show the fans that he has no favourites, he can pick the best team and finally he can make substitutions, am I confident that the verdict on the game on Sunday will be any better than the Colchester or Watford one's, sorry but know !

But for all that I think that Saints will succeed 3-1.
