"McClure Created The Monster That Lewis Became?"

Home >Story Index> Just A Few From Behind The Scenes.

Unsurprisingly, the author of that e-mail wanted his/her name kept out of these comments but was happy for us to use them on the sight. Some of them are pretty uninspiring but a couple make you laugh and a couple just horrify you.
Fist off we are told about the raising of £10,000 to bail Mike Lewis out last week. Naturally, Mr L did not have that kind of money at his disposal and so someone put up that money for him. None other than his old spoon bending mate Uri Geller. Rumours that he bent spoons for nineteen hours in Exeter's Cathedral Yard to raise the money for this prove unfounded.
But that was last week, we now go back in time to the days of Silver Shield as was. Lewis was introduced to Messrs Hamer and McClure by his friend. (I am assuming a mutual friend but can't say for certain) Somehow, Lewis managed to convince these two that he was commercial manager at Fulham. Sure enough, he got the job and his first task? Ask for a pay rise.
Lewis we are told was ruthless at the Vetch and anyone who seemed to get in his way was quickly dispatched because Mr McClure listened to what Uncle Mike was saying to him. The list of departees who need look no further than Mike for the loss of their jobs include: Peter 'Thick Welshies' Day, Peter Barber, Malcolm Elias, Jeremy Charles, Vicky Townsend, Steve Hamer, Alan Cork and a few others. Of course there were 'resignations' in there. Some were missed, others not so much so.
Now then - remember Mickey Adams. In and out of the door quicker than you can say his name. Well, he decided to leave because McClure told him that if he left the lights go out at Swansea. When Adams informed McClure that he was leaving, McClure offered him £50,000 to stay (no checking with anyone else) but Adams wasn't that dim and looked at McClure and uttered a simple phrase "F off you fat c " (I believe McClure took this as a NO!)
Mike Lewis is bad apple but problems can also be traced comfortably back to Mr McClure. Maybe he is responsible for the person that Lewis became through listening to him and promoting him through the ranks. And of course eventually selling him the club for £1 (something still doesn't smell right on that one)
I now promise that this is the book closed from me on previous lives but there was a few interesting things in the mail that I felt I wanted to share via the site. We have a future to look forward to from now on in - time to stop looking backwards from now - I promise!
