Remember The Class Of 2004/2005?

With the current lack of new faces arriving at White Rock I have taken this opportunity to have a look back of the fortunes of our promotion winning squad over the last season.

10/10

Sam Ricketts - It's safe to say none was dancing in the streets when his arrival from non-league Telford was announced but he has turned out to be possibly KJ's best signing. He showed skills when both attacking and defending and just as importantly at both right and left back. His performances tailed off slightly at the end of the season due to his injury and he is now the last Welsh international at the Vetch and our first since Roger Freestone.

Kris O'Leary - Much maligned through his career by some fans he was definitely the surprise package of the season. His ball winning abilities were excellently matched with our more attacking players and his presence was huge. It is no coincidence that his injury coincided with a loss of form by the team. He also contributed 2 nerve-calming goals both in 1-0 wins over Oxford and Bury late season.

9/10

Willy Gueret - Given the task of replacing Rog and he rose to the challenge superbly. He has fast become a cult hero for the fans and our 11 1-0 wins are testament to how vital he is to the team not to mention his penalty saving ability as shown against Lincoln. Like his predecessor kicking is a slight problem and 5 yellow cards is far too many for a keeper.

Lee Trundle - Whatever you think of him it cant be denied that he puts bums on seats and his 23 goals (including a hat-trick against Notts County) were the difference between us being a promotion or a mid table side. Yes he is selfish (aren't all great strikers?) and 6 of his goals were penalties but he wins several himself and we have seen less of the diving recently (and we can forgive that one against Boston!). He is the complete entertainer and his exploits on Soccer AM can only bring good exposure to the club.

Izzy Iriekpen - One of 3 good centre backs at the club, Izzy has attracted Championship interest. He has been solid all season and is a tremendous athlete. He has also chipped in with 2 goals a model that other defenders should look to follow from corners in particular.

8/10

Kevin Austin - Kevin 'solid as a rock' Austin played strongly at both centre back and left back throughout the season. Joining on a free transfer the experienced man from Trinidad & Tobago was slightly exposed for pace during the latter stages at left back so he will probably have more value to the team at centre back next season.

Adrian Forbes - Having joined us as a striker from Luton, he played most of the season out of position on the right wing. His crossing must improve if he is to stay there though and with all the rumoured arrivals he may end up more at home up front in a 433 next season or even at right back where he far from disgraced himself when asked to fill in. Mr 110% he contributed 7 goals including the last in a league game at the Vetch and the winners in 2 other 1-0 victories.

Garry Monk - He is without doubt a very good player and should be able to take the rise in divisions in his stride. The only problem is his questionable discipline, which saw the swans down to 10 men 3 times, with 1 particularly stupid dismissal costing the swans dear against Shrewsbury.

7/10

Paul Connor - Although he is not a complete finisher and his all round game is not special; Paul has shown a superb work rate this season and contributed 13 goals with 1 in each round of the FA Cup. Even though a move to Doncaster fell through the number of rumoured arrivals to partner Trundle may mean his days are numbered.

Andrew Gurney - He seems to have unfairly become the new Howard and along with the Robinson spat this may have been the reason for his transfer listing at the end of the season. On the pitch he has shown versatility and has invaluable League 1 experience so we may still hang on to him.

Leon Britton - The ex West Ham man has lacked opportunities this season with left wing clearly not his best position and competition of places in central midfield. He has shown good patches of skill and creativity, but physicality remains a problem.

Brian Murphy - A highly competent backup for Willy who hasn't let anyone down when selected and hasn't complained about his lack of action. His penalty saves in the shootout against TNS mustn't be forgotten.

Marc Goodfellow - 4 goals for the Bristol City man during his brief stay in South Wales represented a successful loan spell, the highlight probably being the winner in the cup against Stockport, and he was called back by Bristol City. However he still struggled for opportunities and with a now vastly reduced price tag it's not that unlikely that the diminutive left-winger will be back again next season.

6/10

Kevin McLeod - Signed from Kenny's old club QPR for 60k in January and has done little yet to justify that price tag. He may be one to look out for next season, as although he has shown glimpses of what he is capable of he didn't see much of the ball when he played this season.

Kevin Nugent - The big Irishman scored 4 useful goals early season most notably the winner against Rushden. Time for him to concentrate on coaching now, but the effect his experience had on our promotion push cant be underestimated.

Roberto Martinez - Definitely not at his best this season and he may be another who will fare better in a higher division. Creativity was sacrificed somewhat this season for a more defensive role and in tandem with KOL he formed a solid midfield. The 9 yellow cards the skipper picked up show his increase in defensive work.

Lee Thorpe - Signed in February to inject some life into the season, his experience was useful as were the 3 goals he netted. He may well find opportunities limited next season though as his style is more suited to League 2.

Andy Robinson - Somewhat of a letdown after his outstanding 03/04 season, but a tally of 8 goals from midfield represent by no means a poor season for the scouser. Off the field however he must be in the last chance saloon after several breaches of discipline. It's a shame as he obviously is talented but must sort out his attitude if he is to make an impact playing in a midfield with strong competition for places.

Marcus Bean - Another loan signing, he joined from QPR in he played a few games at centre midfield and looked a decent enough young player before returning to Loftus Road.

5/10

Ijah Anderson - Performed solidly when required, a good athlete who added depth to the squad.

James Thomas - Injury killed his season off. KJ obviously feels he has something to offer as he has been given pre-season to impress and all Jacks would love to see him back to his best.

4/10

Alan Tate - Not much action for him and I don't think he was really trusted at centre back.

1/10

Gary Fisken - A season to forget for all concerned. He is now on the transfer list but who will possibly take him?
