A Rough Guide To The Liberty Stadium Thursday, 23rd Oct 2008 16:55 All the info for the first visit to Swansea City in 26 years. Swansea moved to the Liberty Stadium in 2005 after nearly a century at the Vetch Field, the stadium is much in the mode of others built in the last decade or so although a trifle smaller in that it holds about 20,500. Visiting supporters are housed in the North Stand and stangely Swansea will not sell any tickets to away fans on the day of the game, so be advised that it is essential that tickets are purchased in advance. Sadly like their local rivals Cardiff, the Swans or Jacks as they are often known seem to have a chip on their shoulders when it comes to the English, so caution is advised in and around the ground for visiting fans. If you are travelling by car leave the M4 at Junction 45 and take the A4067 towards the City Centre (sign posted A4067 South). Stay on the A4067 for around two and half miles and the stadium is on your left. Car parking at the stadium is for permit holders only and most of the immediate residential areas around the stadium now have 'residents only' parking schemes in place. However away mini buses and coaches can park behind the North Stand in a fenced compound, at a charge of £10 per vehicle. By Train Swansea Central station is about two miles or a half hour walk to the ground, however its well served by buses and a Taxi is only about four quid. For those who like a drink before the game, beer is available in the away section, although it should be noted that all pubs in the Stadium vicinity have been instructed by the police not to allow away fans in, meaning that its advisable to drink away from the ground before making your way there, Swansea city centre has plenty of pubs but again visiting fans are advised to be discrete.
