Trundle Stars In Late Late Show

Port Vale v Swansea City

Lee Trundle's late heroics secured a 2-0 victory for Swansea - their first win at Port Vale for 49 years. The Swans had lost on their last eight visits and a ninth looked on the cards as Vale pressed forward in the second period. But Trundle took centre stage in the closing stages as he scored one goal and made another for Thomas Butler. A point apiece looked about right until Trundle left Vale defender Richard Walker in his wake and drove in an unstoppable left-foot shot. And the Swansea fans behind the goal were still celebrating when Trundle beat two opponents before presenting substitute Butler with a simple finish. Vale were crestfallen having dominated much of the second half and squandered several decent opportunities. Leon Constantine and Paul Harsley should have done better than fire over an open target and substitute Joe Cardle drove a left-foot shot inches wide.

What a great day it was, really enjoyed the match and the atmosphere was brilliant from thre travelling fans. It felt even more special with two last minute goals. I thought we played some good stuff, good movement and passing - no long ball. But no final product ie not many shots on goal until the 89th minute. Here's my player ratings and performances: Oakes - 6: After a surprise selection - He dropped one catch and made one dodgy kick, but apart from that looked quite comfortable. Painter - 6: A good debut, looked to know how to pass but did drift out of position a few times. Give him a few games. Austin - 6: Like a rock, I thought he'd be torn to pieces by Constantine and Sodje but seemed to have them under control Lawrence - 6: Won alot of headers well, he was even in attacking positions. I didn't notice him that much but I can't remember him making many mistakes Amankwaah - 7: A good game from him today I thought, made some good runs and put in some good crosses. Looked focused. Robinson - 4: Looked like he has all season, lazy and not playiong as well as we know he can. He game the ball away in some good positions - frustrating performance O'Leary 4: - Wasn't his best game, he has just come back from an injury and he's short of match practice - Wasn't his usual self, didn't see many ball winning tackles. Tate 7: - A good game from Beaker, put in some good tackles, did give the ball away a few times but he actually got in some good forward positions and put a few crosses in. Britton 9: - A superb performance from Little Leon, he was the focal point of our play, he was his tricky little self and created alot of opportunities to score and made some very good runs on the wing Fallon 5: - Not his best game today, he held the ball up well when he had it, missed a good chance from what I could see, won more headers and flick ons in the second half. Trundle 8.5 - What more can be said about the Lord that hasn't been said before? He hardly gave the ball away and created chances, held the ball up well. Scored a great goal, a typical LT10 on his left foot. Then he was his usual cocky self when he set up Butler (Watch it on the TV tomorrow - Awesome) Subs - MacDonald 6: - Looked good when he came on, made some promising runs forward. Butler - 6: - Changed the game when he was brought on. Did give the ball away a few times but we looked more attacking when he came on.

Oakes 7 - Didn't fill me with great confidence. Looked a little hesitant on crosses, although he did deal with them. Amankwaah 5 - Defending wasn't too bad but distribution was mediorce. Painter 6 - Improved as the game went on after mis placing several passes. Got caught out of position a couple of times, but as the game went on he looked stonger. Austin 8 - Dealt with everything. No nonesense approach. Lawrence 8 - As above. Britton 9 - Little terrier. Very lively and looked dangerous everytime he had the ball. Put lots of good crosses in. Robinson 6 - Worked quite hard but isn't the same player as last season. O'Leary 5 - Seriously lacking match fitness and looked miles off the pace. Tate 9 - The guvnor'! Fallon 5 - A poor performance today. Didn't win much and was generally inaffective. Trundle 10! - Different gravy today. Dangerous everytime he had the ball and capped it off with a brilliant goal, aswell as some magical skills to set up the 2nd for Butler. Subs - Butler 8 - Brought energy to the team, and had a very, very good 20-25 mins. McDonald 7 - Very composed for such a young lad. JACKETT 9 - Love him or hate him, his substitutions won us the game today. Butler and McDonald gave us much threat going forward. For today, it's a thumbs up for Jackett. Overall it wasn't the best performance we'll ever see, but we got stronger as the game went on and the players kept plugging away.
