Bussy Ready To Shine

Bussy Starts To Feel At Home

Bussy Mayol must have wondered what he had let himself in for when he first arrived in Swansea. Coming in the middle of summer to a holiday resort you would have forgiven him for expecting warm weather, glorious summer evenings and a host of people making the most of their breaks from work.

But what he got was the middle of one of the worst summers on record with rain, storms, floods and very little sunshine. Welcome to Swansea, Bussy where it generally only rains twice a year - November to March and April to October.

But he is beginning to acclimatise himself to the Welsh weather and with a turn for the better in the past month he is enjoying his stay at Swansea and ready to challenge both Jason Scotland and Darryl Duffy for a place in the starting line up. Bussy has had less than 10 minutes action in the two league games to date - whilst a start against Walsall in the Carling Cup left him goalless although he was left for a large period with just Ian Craney for half company up front.

And he will start on the bench again today as the Swans look to add the opening number to their win column at Walsall after two hugely encouraging performances.

"The first month was bad, but the second month has been very good with the warm weather," Bussy told the Western Mail.

"I've been to the beach twice and it feels like home. But I wouldn't go in the sea because of the sharks!"

Now before anyone worries about a Great White taking a chunk of them off Rhossili Bay, Bussy's comments are very much tongue in cheek following reported sightings of sharks off Cornwall's coast line and most definitely not reference to a rare sighting of Mike Lewis in Swansea.

"I'm training very hard, but this pre-season has been very different for me," he added

"In Spain the pre-season is soft and it's longer because you build slowly.

"You find your feet in the third or fourth game, but here there were many matches in pre-season and you start the first game in your best condition.

"I'm now in a good mood to start playing and do well.

"Every training session I'm looking to impress the manager and start games on the next Saturday.

"But it's difficult because we have a good squad and good strikers.

"The fans should not worry because sometimes you play well and don't score, but the goals will come. There are so many cup games here, in Spain I would be more worried if I was sitting on the bench

"But there are a lot of competitions here and the games come Saturday, Tuesday and Saturday again. I will have lots of chances to do my best.

"And I'm ready for the cold because in Spain I prefer to play when it's cloudy and raining, for me it's better than playing in the sunshine."

And that sentence alone is quote possibly why Bussy will fit in very nicely here at Swansea.
