Martinez In Man Utd Link Sunday, 6th Jul 2008 10:53 The Times link Roberto Martinez with the assistant managers job at Old Trafford... (!) You can understand links with Premiership managerial jobs but assistant manager at Old Trafford? You just can't see it can you? Yes I accept that with Sir Alex retiring (he plans toretires more often than Derby pull out of races to sign Ferrie Bodde) there is a chance that the next assistant could take the main job in a few years but can you really see Roberto walking out of his job at Swansea to take this on? No, me neither. Current assistant boss Carlos Queiroz is about to depart Old Trafford to take on the Portugal job which leaves a hole in the coaching staff with the Premiership Champions with the Times claiming "Brian McClair, highly regarded by Ferguson for his work as the club’s academy director, is among those likely to be considered as a replacement, although United may also look at up-and-coming Championship managers, such as Barnsley’s Simon Davey, Simon Grayson of Blackpool and Swansea’s Roberto Martinez. " This is likely not to be anything more than papertalk (very likely in fact) but it's an interesting link and proves more than anything that the stock of Roberto continues to rise. Nothing to worry about. Photo: Action Images Please report offensive, libellous or inappropriate posts by using the links provided.
