Swansea Captain Garry Monk has called for his players to step up to the plate as they prepare for their final seven games

Back to back defeats for Swansea City have left them on the fringes of the play off zone rather than sitting in it which was where they wanted to be as they prepare for the weekend trip to Sheffield Wednesday.

With a two week break due after the game in Yorkshire, Monk believes that his side still have the chance of reaching the end of season play offs despite being written off in several quarters following the defeat at QPR.

Monk returned from injury in that game with a man of the match performance but will look for more from his team mates on Saturday and he told the Western Mail “Things have to turn around sooner rather than later, the gap is growing between us and the top six.

“Maybe a few games have caught up with some of the boys. But that’s no excuse because, at the end of the day, the other teams have played a similar amount of games.

“We have to go and impose ourselves on games and we just aren’t doing that at the moment. We have to really step up to the plate now and it’s time for characters to shine.

“We have seven left and it’s important we get a run together quickly.

“We are not out of it yet. And we won’t stop dreaming until we are."
