Swansea City captain Garry Monk has revealed that he and the rest of the squad had missles thrown at them during Sundays Derby.

An investigation has been started into the events surrounding a coin throwing incident that left Premiership official Mike Dean needing medical treatment by Swansea physio Richie Evans.

Both clubs have universally condemned the actions of the 24 year old who has been charged in connection with the event. However with tensions running high it seems that it was not the only occurrence of missiles been thrown at individuals on the pitch as Monk revealed to BBC sport, he said “There was stuff coming on the pitch all the time. There were cups of what seemed like squash and stuff and you could see coins being thrown on all the time and this and that. “

He added “No-one wants to see anything like that and the ref got hit on the head and for one minute I thought he was going to go down; that's why I grabbed him, to keep him up a little bit. Thankfully it wasn't too serious because you don't want to see that no matter what."

Praising his team-mates for their professional approach to the game the only other sour note for the former Southampton man is that the players could not hold on to send the sizable travelling jack army away with a win , he adds “I thought the boys dealt with it well.We were professional and we just got on with our jobs and it wasn't as intimidating as I thought it was going to be so we were quite happy with that. We just wanted to win the game. We wanted to send our own fans home with a win."
