Dorus de Vries admits he could end up staying at Swansea - providing the contract offer is still on the table

The Dutchman looked a certain leaver at the start of the summer after it was reported that a deadline to sign a new deal had passed.

But a family bereavement had taken his eye off the ball as far as football was concerned but he is now ready to see if the deal that was offered at the start of the summer still stands.

de Vries told the Evening Post "My grandfather was like a second dad to me.  Straight after the season finished I went to spend some time with him and sadly he died a couple of weeks ago.

"It drained a lot of energy out of me and, to be honest, I haven't really been thinking about football.

"But I have just had a holiday and now I am looking to get things sorted out.  As far as I know, altough I'm not certain, the offer of a new contract at Swansea is still standing.

"I know it was definitely still then when Roberto was in charge but I think the Chairman has emailed my agent to say the offer still stands now.  I am not 100 per cent sure though because there has been a lot of miscommunication in the last couple of weeks and I haven't actually spoken to my agent that much.

"I had been speaking to Roberto before he went to Wigan and I had an appointment with him to talk about the new deal.

"That never happened because he left and, if the offer is still there, I want to see what's going to happen with the club now before making the decision.

"There has been some interest from other clubs in England and from other countries but I want to wait and see what is going to happen at Swansea.

"I would like to know who the new goalkeeping coach is going to be because I enjoyed working with Inaki.   It could be a question of whether the new management team like my face but we need to sort something out soon because pre-season training is not far away."
