Angel Rangel says he expected to follow Roberto Martinez to Wigan, but is happy to stay at the club this summer

The formet Terrassa man expected the new Wigan boss to make a move for him this summer, but says that he didn't even get a goodbye call from the Spaniard.

“When he left I thought he would at least call me to say, ‘Thanks for your two years and all the best with the new manager.’ But that didn’t happen," Rangel told Wales Online.

“I wish him all the best but, to be honest, I did think he would ring to say he wanted to take me with him. That didn’t happen so I am just focused on Swansea now.

“There’s still time for him to call and the summer is always unpredictable in football.

“But, when you are in a team like this you know it will be another exciting year.”

“I’m disappointed Roberto hasn’t called in the sense that the Premiership is always the dream,” he said.

“But then, I’m not disappointed because I’m happy in the Championship with Swansea, the club that gave me everything.

“I feel at home here, I feel loved and I have a lot of friends here.

“So everything is going well and, while it would be amazing to go to the Premiership, it will also be amazing to stay here.

“Hopefully the new manager will bring in some new faces and it’s exciting times here.

“It’s nice to have new things in a club. I’m looking forward to having a fresh start and hopefully we can achieve something better.”

“I still think I will be a Swansea player next season,” he said. “I spoke to the gaffer and he said he wanted me here and I said that I wanted to be here.

“There have been so many rumours over the last few weeks. But, as I have always said, they are only rumours and my mind is fully focused on Swansea.

“I have been training really hard and I haven’t spoken to any other clubs. So, hopefully, I will be here and fit for the start of the season.”
