Cedric Van Der Gun believes that Ferrie Bodde can represent his country at the highest level

The Dutch winger has seen his fellow countryman return from injury and reclaim a place in the Swans matchday squad since signing terms at the Liberty.

And he believes that not only can Ferrie complete a return from injury he can also progress his career to such a stage that he could be considered for the national squad.

Van Der Gun told Wales on Sunday “Playing for Holland is definitely something Ferrie is capable of

“I think it’s something he can aim for and he should certainly have that ambition.

“It’s happened before with many players for things to move very quickly for them and to reach that stage.

“And Ferrie can be one of them. The fact he is wanted by Premier League clubs shows the kind of quality he has.

“It’s something that can happen for him in the future – but he cannot think about that too much.

“After the injury he’s been through, the important thing for Ferrie is to just focus on the game in front of him.

“If he does that and not get ahead of things, he’ll be back to his best very quickly.

“But Ferrie knows that and he’s already showing it.

“Me and Ferrie played together for two years and it’s good to be back playing with him again,  The past few months have been tough for him and I know what he’s been through.

“We spoke a lot on the phone last season and I had to tell him not to worry because he would be back.

“There are times when you are afraid, when you have doubts – but when the football comes, when you can focus on the ball again then everything else is forgotten.

“There would never be a problem with Ferrie – already people have seen how eager he is to get back to the levels he can perform at.

“And the way I’ve seen him train and play, this is the Ferrie Bodde everyone is used to."
