The defender pipped Joe Allen and Aaron Ramsey, who won the 'young player of the year' award, to pick up the 'clubman of the year' and 'player of the year' accolades.

Williams joined the Swans in 2008 for a (then) record fee of £400k and has proved to be an excellent signing for the club.

He has mpressively played in every league game for the Swans since making his intial loan move from Stockport County permanent 18 months ago and has missed just one Wales fixture.

Williams will pull on the captain's armband for his country for the first time on Saturday against the Scots, with Craig Bellamy away with Manchester City.

"Ash in my opinion is one of the players who has developed a lot, but he is also someone who can go a lot further," said Sousa.

"He is one of the players who can reach the Premier League."

"Things have moved very quickly for me, and I am a little shocked," he said.

"It is an honour to win such an award when you think exactly who has won it in the past."
