The big Georgian decides to stay in Turkey
The big Georgian decides to stay in Turkey

The commentators on the Football League show heaved a big sigh of relief today, with the news that former Reading player Zurab Khizanishvili will not be coming to Leeds after all.

The central defender was the third ex-Royals player to have been rumoured to be linking up with  Brian McDermott again, but the 31-year-old has decided to stay with Turkish club Kayserispor and has extending his current deal for another season. His agent told the Yorkshire Post “He has signed a contract, there is no more to say.”

Supposedly we faced competition for his signature from his old club Reading, as well as Norwich City (who might want to cut out the middle man and sign some Leeds targets before they’ve even arrived at Elland Road) but it seems all this speculation has come to nothing.

Brian McDermott is keen to sign another central defender for next season, with his options in that area currently consisting of Lees, Pearce and Peltier, but he will now have to look elsewhere.
