According to local press reports, Leeds United are on the verge of agreeing a major sponsorship deal with energy drinks giants Red Bull.

Although nothing has yet been confirmed, an article in the YEP this morning hints that Leeds could look at selling the naming rights to Elland Road, so soon could we be spending our afternoons at the Red Bull Arena or something daft like that?

Apparently Managing Director David Haigh is very well connected with the soft drinks firm.

Undoubtedly this will raise the heckles of the traditionalists amongst us, however I don't really get that uptight about it now. After all, the Kop, East and South Stands are all sponsored and I've never heard anyone say "I sit in row GG, seat 86 of the Monarch Airlines Stand"

There will also be those who will hate the idea of anything red being associated with Leeds United, particularly if this leads to a later shirt-sponsorship deal as the YEP article suggests however if it generates some much needed income for Brian McDermott's squad rebuilding then why not?

However I'd draw the line at the Leeds Red Bulls like what has happened in Saltzberg and New York!
