Matt Le Tissier Column - Moyes Needs To Win The Manchester Derby !
Thursday, 19th Sep 2013 12:17

In the latest of Matt's blog's, he looks at the upcoming Manchester derby and concludes David Moyes really needs a win.

David Moyes needs to win his first Manchester derby to keep the United fans on his side.

United manager Moyes would really be on the back foot if he lost to neighbours City so soon after being defeated by fierce rivals Liverpool.

That Liverpool result would have made some United fans ask questions of him so he needs a derby victory.

Moyes will be a little cautious in his approach to this fixture and that’s why, in my opinion, a draw is the most likely outcome.

And not a very entertaining one at that. It could be another damp squib similar to United’s 0-0 home draw with Chelsea.

I can see a stalemate with both teams preferring not to lose rather than going out to win.

I have already said that Moyes has got his work cut-out winning the Premier League this season.

In my opinion I think they will be worse off this term by 10 or 12 points because Sir Alex Ferguson is no longer their manager.

That’s not being disrespectful to David Moyes.

It’s just a fact that Sir Alex had such a massive influence on the team and lots of things at Old Trafford and he will be missed for at least a season.

At least Wayne Rooney looks as though he might be getting back to form which is good for England as well.

He scored a very good free-kick against Crystal Palace showing great technique to get the ball up and down over the wall like that.

And he followed that by claiming his 200th Manchester United goal in the Champions League win over Bayer Leverkusen.

He’s had a tough time of late what with that cut on the head and everything but those goals would have given him a big boost.
