Inbetween R's Part Deux — Podcast
Tuesday, 24th Sep 2013 22:55 by LFW

Former QPR goalkeeper Lee Harper is the guest on the phone this week for the Open All R’s Podcast.

Harper arrived at QPR in 1997 from Arsenal and stayed until 2001 — a difficult period for the club culminating in financial turmoil and a relegation to the Second Division.

Harper believes Rangers will be promoted this season because Harry Redknapp has assembled a team of experienced leaders, similar to when Rangers brought in Neil Ruddock and Vinnie Jones to help save them from relegation during his time back in 1997/98.

Harper said: “We had to go to Man City and get at least a point that season. We took Vinnie Jones and Neil Ruddock on loan and I was a bit naïve - we were in the tunnel, there were 30,000 at Maine Road, and I looked round and saw that Ruddock and Jones had Georgi Kinkladze up the wall by his throat.

“They were characters we didn’t have in the first part of that season. Jones pulled people around and gave them a bollocking when they needed one. I see similarities with people like Richard Dunne, his experience to read the game in front of them and be a real leader for QPR. Harry wants honest players, not people who are going to get in little cliques. I think, touch wood, the club are destined to be champions. That stability they’ve got bodes so well.”

Regular panellist Paul Finney and host Chris Charles are joined in the studio by QPR fan Sandra Lerman and Inbetweeners co-creator Iain Morris.
