Dicker heads off
Thursday, 23rd Jan 2014 18:15 by Col

Dale midfielder Gary Dicker has left the club following the expiry of his short term deal and has joined League One side Crawley.

He signed for Crawley after he was watched by their boss John Gregory in our 2-2 performance at Chesterfield in midweek, where Dicker's performance was described as being "excellent". Gregory added to that saying:“He’s a really good ball-playing midfielder. He gets stuck in but he’s also very good on the ball and he is really keen to make this move work for him."

Speaking about the move to the Crawley website, Dicker said: “It’s a great move for me personally because my family are down here and it has been hard commuting from the north west but I have come here for footballing reasons."

It was something of a mixed time at Spotland for Dicker. He arrived at the club to great adulation with a track record as good as any signing that we've made in recent years. And so it proved to be initially as he provided balance and creativity to the midfield.

However, the return of Peter Cavanagh saw the former Brighton man relegated to the bench, and it was noticeable the difference Cav's inclusion had on games in comparison to Dicker's.

He leaves Spotland with fifteen appearances for the club and one goal.
