Saints Tying Up Five Year Deal For Matt Targett
Thursday, 27th Nov 2014 23:31

Saints are reportably close to tying left sided prodigy Matt Target to a five year contract, which is the news every Saints supporter wants to here.

So far Target has been carefully nurtured by Saints and apart from a 1 minute cameo in the Premier League against QPR hi appearances have been limited to 3 starts in the Capital One Cup games this season.

However in these games he has shown not only that he has what it takes but maturity beyond his years and although he is behind Ryan Bertrand in the pecking order he seemingly is Saints long term option at left back, leading to speculation that when Saints signed Bertrand on loan it was with the view that it would only be for a season whilst Targett gained experience.

Bertrand has had a spectacular season and there isn't A Saints fan who would not like to see him signed permanently but Target is a rare talent as well.

We will surely see mere of him and ironically he is likely to make his Premier League full debut barring an earlier injury to Bertrand when Saints meet Chelsea in the final game of 2014 and the on loan left back is unable to play against his parent club.

Yet another one off the production line for Saints and testament to the concentration put into our youth system over a decade ago which has lead to the fruits we are seeing today.

This is fantastic news,i would like to know the latest on the Cork situation,i feel a bit sorry for Bertrand he is a really good player trying to establish himself some where but we have Josh Debayo after Targett,i hope we can still do a deal for Bertrand and the impressive Aderwerild or what ever his name is lol the future is bright its definitely red and white coyr.

Excellent news! I do agree with 1970 that we must be talking to Jack and sorting a contract soon, even if he is not going to play every game, he is a wonderful player to have on the bench if we are going to compete with the big squads that the "big clubs" have ( I use that term loosely as we are now one of the big clubs, just that we don't have a squad to match!). Likewise, Ryan and Toby are key parts in the jigsaw for our future.
