Friday, 22nd May 2015 09:26

Its the final day of the Premier League season 2014/15 and here we take a look at the other matches taking place not involving Saints courtesy of our friends at EA Sports Player performance Index.

Arsenal vs West Brom, Sunday 24th May — 15:00

Arsenal have now secured second place in the Premier League and have some solid building blocks to work off next season and mount a serious title challenge. After a midweek draw against Sunderland, Arsenal will be hoping to go out with a win on the final day.

Santi Cazorla has had arguably his best season in an Arsenal shirt, and with just one game remaining in the Barclays Premier League, his place in the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index Team of the Season looks safe. Cazorla has completed 1,391 passes in the opposition half this season, the fourth most in the division, as well as recording a superb 89.1% pass completion rate.

A player who has not featured much this season, but has made an impact whenever he has played is Theo Walcott. The Englishman has played thirteen games, in both the centre forward position and on the wing, but it is the accuracy of his shooting that has been most notable. Walcott has a squad-best shot accuracy of 69.2% and has scored 0.48 goals per ninety minutes.

Alexis Sanchez’s goalscoring form this season has been particularly impressive. He has scored 16 goals over the course of his 34 games. The Chilean has recorded an impressive 61.8% of his shots on target, the third highest accuracy rate among the top 40 goalscorers, behind Charlie Austin and Diego Costa. Sanchez is likely to provide Arsenal’s main threat on the weekend and 888sport.com have him at 21/20 to score at any time.

West Brom come in to this game off the back of a 3-0 victory over Chelsea, and are five games unbeaten — despite a very tricky run including the aforementioned champions, as well as Manchester United and Liverpool. The run of tough games has not eased up, as West Brom close the season against second-placed Arsenal.

The Baggies performances have been based upon their strong back line, with Joleon Lescott being central to this. Lescott has been deployed in the Left Back position under Tony Pulis, and according to the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index he has won 51 tackles so far this campaign, 81% of his overall attempts, also making squad bests of 208 clearances, 79 interceptions and 35 blocks.

Chris Brunt has proved that hard work can be one key to success, as demonstrated by the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index. He has completed a squad best 348.26km so far this season, making 67 interceptions in defence. Going forward he has completed 498 passes in the opposition half, also completing a squad best 28 crosses and racking up 9 assists.

Saido Berahino struck twice against Chelsea, bringing his total in the Barclays Premier League to 14. The English youngster has featured in every game for West Brom and with 37 shots on target, 54.4% of his total shots, he could well add to his tally this weekend against Arsenal. Berahino is 17/2 to score first with 888sport.com.

Aston Villa vs Burnley, Sunday 24th May — 15:00

Aston Villa’s run of form came to an abrupt end last weekend, as they were trounced 6-1 by Southampton, but Tim Sherwood will be hoping to finish the season in style against already-relegated Burnley.

Jores Okore has excelled under Sherwood and the defender has made 45 tackles over the 23 games he has played this season. As well as this, Okore has made 152 clearances, 60 interceptions and 16 blocks, according to the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index.

Tom Cleverley has only scored three goals this season, all of which have come in the last four games. Throughout the season he’s also demonstrated his excellent array of passing, with the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index showing that he completed a pass in the opposition half at an impressive rate of a pass every three minutes and 16 seconds.

Fabian Delph has arguably been Villa’s standout player this season. The England international has played a total of 849 passes in the opposition half, which is more than any other player in the Villa squad and in the top 20 in the league. If you fancy Cleverley to hit the back of the net this weekend, head to 888sport.com who have him at 5/1 to score at any time.

This Sunday’s game will be Burnley’s last Barclays Premier League game for at least a year as they return to the Championship next season. Sean Dyche will be hoping his side put up a spirited display and go out with a win.

Tom Heaton has been a key cog in the Burnley side this season, making numerous important saves and as such has been rewarded with a call-up to the England squad. The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index reveals that he has racked up 122 saves so far this campaign, at an average of 2.3 saves per goal conceded.

Up top, Danny Ings has had a fine season with Burnley in the Premier League and has proved his class in the division. Ings has scored on ten occasions this season from a squad best 32 attempts on target. His direct style will prove a big threat to Villa, having completed a squad best 57 dribbles. He is 9/4 to score anytime with 888sport.com.

George Boyd is famed for his hard work up and down the flank, and the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index can reveal that the Scotland international has covered 416.6km so far this campaign, the second highest total of any player in the Premier League. He also holds a squad best 111 tackles won, 64.5% of his overall attempts.

Chelsea vs Sunderland, Sunday 24th May — 15:00

Chelsea lost their third Premier League game of the season last Monday, but as they are lifting the Premier League trophy after Sunday’s game, they will hope to finish the season off with a win to create a party atmosphere at Stamford Bridge.

Eden Hazard has been Chelsea’s star man this season and has made 169 successful dribbles, 54 more than his closest challenger Alexis Sanchez. Hazard has also completed the second most passes in the opposition half according to the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index with 1,532. Hazard has scored fourteen goals and laid on a further nine for his teammates.

Diego Costa returned to action against West Brom and as usual ruffled a few opposition players’ feathers. His combative style of play has proved to be extremely rewarding this season, as the striker has scored 19 goals in 25 appearances, and averages a goal every 106 minutes. This is largely down to his accuracy when shooting, having put 63.8% of his shots on target. Costa is 29/10 to score first with 888sport.com.

Nemanja Matic has been key to the Chelsea side this season and has made the most tackles of any player in the Barclays Premier League, dispossessing his opponent 124 times over the course of the season. As well as this, Matic has an 86.32% pass completion rate, one of the highest in the division.

Sunderland have completed the great escape! Manager Dick Advocaat has led Sunderland clear of relegation and the Black Cats can now join in Chelsea’s celebrations on Saturday and play without fear.

A key player to Sunderland’s survival has been Lee Cattermole. The central midfielder has been absolutely vital in breaking down opposition attacks throughout the season. The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index demonstrates his ability in this field, as Cattermole has made 68 interceptions as well as winning 73 tackles.

In the midfield, Sebastian Larsson has been an extremely consistent performer, according to the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index. He has won 80 tackles, 63.5% of his overall attempts, and made 39 interceptions. As well as this, Larsson has completed squad best 629 passes in the opposition half and has delivered 22 successful crosses.

Jermain Defoe has made a big contribution to Sunderland’s survival bid since his January arrival. 52.4% of the Englishman’s shots have been on target and he has scored with just under a fifth of his shots, according to the EA SPORTS Player Performance. Defoe is 19/2 to score first with 888sport.com.

Crystal Palace vs Swansea, Sunday 24th May — 15:00

Crystal Palace ruined yet another big day for Liverpool last weekend, winning 3-1 in Steven Gerrard’s last game at Anfield.

Yannick Bolasie has been widely regarded as Palace’s Player of the Season, and the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index backs this up. Bolasie has completed the fifth most dribbles in the Barclays Premier League with 91, as well as completing 26 crosses, the eleventh most in the division. He already has 12 assists to his name and a further four goals and will be looking to add to these tallies in the final game of the season. He is 13/4 to score anytime with 888sport.com.

Joel Ward has had a superb season for Palace. The fullback has covered a squad best 368.72km so far this campaign, helping him to win 94 tackles. He has also made 171 clearances, 62 interceptions and 15 blocks this season, according to the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index.

Julian Speroni has been another impressive performer for Palace this campaign. The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index can reveal that the Eagles’ keeper has racked up 90 saves so far this term, at an average of 2.5 saves per game, according to the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index.

Swansea manager Garry Monk will be delighted with his side’s showing in the Barclays Premier League this season.

They will be hoping that their keeper Lukasz Fabianski provides one more display to the same quality that he has delivered all season. The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index shows that the Swans’ shot stopper has racked up 131 saves so far this season, more than any other goalkeeper in the league.

In the middle of the park, Gylfi Sigurdsson has been in inspired form for Swansea, and the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index shows just how hard he works for the team. He has covered a squad best 357.41km and his hard work has seen his team reap the rewards, having seen him rack up 39 interceptions, scoring seven goals and setting up a further ten. He is 16/5 to score anytime with 888sport.com.

Swansea captain Ashley Williams has been a rock at the back for the Swans throughout the season. The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index shows that he has won 68.9% of his 61 tackles this term, as well as making 394 clearances and 100 interceptions — which are the second and third highest totals in the Barclays Premier League respectively.

Newcastle v West Ham — 15:00, Sunday 24th May

Newcastle host West Ham in their final match of the season, desperately looking for three points to guarantee their status in the Premier League next year.

John Carver will have felt particularly disappointed to lose to QPR in Newcastle’s last game, as the team had more of the ball and also took more shots than their counterparts. Central to Newcastle’s attacking effort was midfielder Moussa Sissoko, who proved to be the creative spark in the Magpies’ offensive play. The EA Sports Player Performance Index demonstrates that he made a total of 28 offensive

contributions (based on passes in the opposition half, shots on target, dribbles and crosses). This was more than any other player in the Newcastle squad. Sissoko is 57/17 with 888sport.com to score at any time.

At the opposite end of the pitch, Fabricio Coloccini was defending for his life to try and keep QPR at bay at any cost. The experienced Argentinean defender has established himself as a consistent performer in the top flight and he used all of this experience of his to great effect on Saturday, with the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index showing that he made a total of 20 defensive contributions (based on clearances, blocks, tackles won and interceptions). This was more than any other player in the Newcastle squad.

It’s credit to Jonas Gutierrez that he has managed to fight his way back into the Newcastle team, after spending time on the sidelines following being diagnosed with testicular cancer. One of the Argentinean’s key assets is his excellent dribbling ability, something that was on show against QPR as he completed six dribbles. This was the most in the Newcastle squad and the second most in the league.

A last minute goal from Romelu Lukaku condemned West Ham to defeat in their last game against Everton. Sam Allardyce will be hoping for a positive performance from his team, in what could be his last game in charge of the club.

One of West Ham’s key players since arriving at the Boleyn Ground last year, has been midfielder Alex Song. The Cameroonian has impressed both offensively and defensively in the centre of the park and his passing, in particular, on Saturday was a joy to behold. The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index shows that he completed a total of 40 passes in the opposition half, which was more than any of his teammates.

Winston Reid has been a big miss for the Hammers over recent weeks, as the New Zealander has been a key cog in West Ham’s defence over the last couple of years. He may have been on the losing side on Saturday, but the centre back showed his excellent defensive ability, winning all of the tackles that he attempted.

One of West Ham’s key weapons in their offensive armoury is midfielder Stewart Downing, with the former Liverpool man showcasing his creativity time and time again. On Saturday, Downing once again demonstrated his fine array of passing, as he completed a pass in the opposition half at an impressive rate of a pass every 3.2 minutes. Downing is 13/2 with 888sport.com to score at any time.

Stoke v Liverpool - 15:00, Saturday 20th May

Stoke drew with Burnley in their last game to take them to 51 points, their record tally in the Premier League. It capped off a fantastic season for the Potters, who will be hoping to round-off the campaign with a victory.

In Danny Ings, Burnley possessed one of the most feared strikers in the league, with gas to frighten even the best defenders. However, ‘Captain Fantastic’ Ryan Shawcross dealt with him with consummate ease, producing an imperious defensive display. The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index shows that he made a total of 19 defensive contributions (based on blocks, clearances, tackles won and interceptions). This was the most in the Stoke squad.

Shawcross wasn’t the only Stoke defender who excelled at the weekend, Geoff Cameron also demonstrated his terrific defensive ability. The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index shows that of the seven challenges he attempted, he won six of them.

Steven N’Zonzi has been one of Stoke’s most impressive performers over recent campaigns, with the Frenchman dominating proceedings in the centre of the park. What isn’t always appreciated is his excellent work rate, but yet again, N’Zonzi showed his willingness to cover every blade of grass for the sake of the team. The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index demonstrates that he ran 11.7km on Saturday, this was more than any other player in the Stoke squad. N’Zonzi is 13/2 with 888sport.com to score at any time.

Steven Gerrard’s last game at Anfield ended in a disappointing 3-1 defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace. It was a sad way for the Liverpool legend to finish his career in front of the Anfield faithful, and leaves the Reds needing a win to secure fifth place in the league.

All of the focus may have centred around Gerrard, but it was actually the performance of captain-in-waiting Jordan Henderson that caught the eye, particularly with regards to passing. The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index shows that he completed 44 passes in the opposition half, which was the most in the Liverpool squad and the fourth most in the league overall. Henderson is 6/1 with 888sport.com to score at any time.

It’s fair to say that some of the players who arrived at Anfield last summer will be looking to build on the experiences that they have learnt this term, and look to kick on next season — as many of them haven’t performed as consistently as they would have liked. Of all of Brendan Rodgers’ new signings, though, Emre Can has probably proven to be the best, as he has shown great promise throughout the campaign. In particular, his ability to slot in at centre-back in a back three has won him many plaudits. This is, in part, due to his natural eye for a tackle — a skill that was on show at the weekend, as he won eight tackles, which was more than any other player in the league.

On the whole, It may have been a season to forget for Liverpool as they have failed to secure a place in the coveted top four, but one player who has had a stellar campaign personally, is Philippe Coutinho. Since the departure of Luis Suarez last year, Coutinho has established himself as the focal point of Liverpool’s attack, holding the key to unlocking opposition defences. Coutinho demonstrated his

attacking prowess to great effect on Saturday, making a total of 32 attacking contributions (based on passes in the opposition half, shots on target, dribbles and crosses). This was the second most in the Liverpool squad, behind only Jordan Henderson (44).

Hull v Manchester United — Sunday 24th May, 15:00

It is crunch time for Hull; now or never. Nothing less than three points against Manchester United will cut it for the Tigers, if they are to have any chance of survival. Two wins on the bounce for Hull were swiftly followed by three defeats, and it is essential that Hull pick up all three points this weekend and hope that other results go their way.

Hull will need a massive performance from their shot stopper Alan McGregor if they are to stay in the Premier League. The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index can reveal that he has racked up 64 saves so far this season at an average of 1.56 saves per goal conceded. He will go in search of his third clean sheet in six, and he holds the key to Hull extending their stay in the Premier League.

One of Hull’s standout players this season has been Ahmed Elmohamady. The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index can reveal that he has won 67 tackles so far this season, 75.3% of his overall attempts, also racking up 103 clearances and 61 interceptions. On the ball, he can also prove a threat having scored twice and having laid on a further five goals for his teammates.

Up top, Hull will look to Nikica Jelavic to deliver the crucial goals that could prove the difference between life in the Premier League and the Championship. The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index can reveal that he has netted eight times this season from just 14 shots on target, turning 57.1% of those opportunities in to goals. Whilst he is a hard worker, having made 20 clearances so far this season, he will need to ensure that his good work is done at the right end of the pitch this weekend. He is 47/20 to score anytime with 888sport.com.

Manchester United have seemingly finished their campaign, but don’t be under any illusions that they will be doing former player and Hull manager Steve Bruce any favors. United’s players will be keen to finish their season off with a victory for the travelling fans and to ensure that they break the 70 points mark, with lots of players looking to impress ahead of the summer transfer window.

Whilst there has been a lot of speculation around his future, Manchester United fans will hope that David de Gea is fit for this weekend so that they are guaranteed at least one last farewell. The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index can reveal that he

has made 93 saves so far this season at an average of 2.5 saves per goal conceded. He will be looking to round off an excellent season with a final clean sheet for the campaign.

A change of tactics has meant a change of position for Ashley Young, who has been turned into a fine wing back by Louis van Gaal. The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index can reveal that he has won 41 tackles so far this term, 82% of his overall attempts. He has also racked up 40 interceptions and completed a squad best 31 crosses, helping him on his way to six assists. He has also netted twice, and will hope that he can add to that tally with another high quality display this weekend.

Ander Herrera saw his goal cancelled out last weekend by a second half own goal, but he will be hoping that he can be the difference this weekend. The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index can reveal that he has won 66 tackles so far this term, 72.5% of his overall challenges. He has four assists to his name as well as six goals from just seven shots on target, converting 85.7% of those attempts. He is 53/10 to score anytime with 888sport.com.

Leicester v QPR — Sunday 24th May, 15:00

Leicester have had the most remarkable turnaround in the past eight weeks, and it leaves them trouble free on the last day of the season. Relegation is no longer a concern following their six wins, one draw and defeat to newly crowned champions Chelsea and they will be keen to keep up their good form until the last whistle of the season blows in front of their home support.

Leicester captain Wes Morgan has been their rock at the back all season, and will not look to make an exception on the final day of the season. The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index can reveal that he has won 54 tackles so far this term, 94.7% of his overall attempts. He has also racked up 260 clearances and 94 interceptions, both of which are squad bests, as well as making an impressive 44 blocks. He will look to carry his good form into the last match of the campaign to deliver another three points for the Foxes.

In the middle of the park, Esteban Cambiasso has demonstrated his longevity and that class really is permanent. The former Argentina international has won 70 tackles, 61.4% of his overall challenges, and racked up 60 interceptions over the course of the season so far. He has also completed a squad best 481 passes in the opposition area, and will look to dictate the tempo of the play again this weekend. If he can add to his four goals for the season, that will be the icing on the cake in an impressive year for Cambiasso.

Up top, Leonardo Ulloa’s goals this season have proved invaluable in keeping Leicester out of harm’s way and relegation. The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index can reveal that he has netted his 10 goals for the season from just 17 shots on target, turning 58.8% of those shots in to goals. His hard work doesn’t stop there, having also won 50 tackles this season, 61% of his overall attempts. He will be

looking to add to his four assists and 10 goals for the season to round off an impressive first season in English football. He is 51/50 to score anytime with 888sport.com.

QPR are looking to round off a disappointing campaign with two back to back victories, following on from their home win over Newcastle last weekend. Whilst the R’s may have left their hopes of survival too late, they will at least look to avoid finishing as the league’s bottom side with three points at the King Power Stadium on Sunday.

In what many are saying is likely to be his last game for the R’s, Rob Green will be looking to give a big sendoff to the Hoops faithful. The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index can reveal that he has made 129 saves for the West Londoners so far this season, at an average of 1.89 saves per goal conceded. He will hope that he can produce one last clean sheet to deliver some smiles to the faces of the R’s travelling faithful.

He has also completed 40 dribbles, set up eight goals and scored three himself, and will hope that he can add to those respective tallies this weekend.

The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index can reveal that he has hit the target 51 times this season, scoring one in three of those opportunities, leaving him with an impressive 17 goals for the season. He is 9/5 to score anytime with 888sport.com.

Everton v Tottenham — Sunday 24th May, 15:00

Everton come into this weekend’s fixture occupying 10th place in the league, and will be keen to ensure that they finish in the top half of the league. Whilst ninth placed Stoke sit four points above them in the league, a pack of clubs are chasing the Toffees down, so they will be keen to make it two wins on the trot to secure 10th spot.

Everton will be looking for a big performance from their centre back and skipper, Phil Jagielka. The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index can reveal that he has won 47 tackles so far this season, 77% of his overall attempts. He has also racked up 376 clearances, 51 interceptions and 35 blocks so far this season, and adding to his four goals for the season would be an ideal way to round off the campaign.

In the middle of the park, Leon Osman had a fantastic game last weekend. The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index can reveal that he hit the target with two of his three shots, finding the net once. He also won one tackle, made one clearance, made one interception, completed one dribble, and completed 45 passes; 81.8% of his attempts. The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index can reveal that he has racked up 106 saves so far this season, at an average of 2.04 saves per goal conceded.
