Boruc Signs For Bournemouth
Tuesday, 26th May 2015 12:10

Artur Boruc has wasted no time putting pen to paper after being released by Saints joining Bournemouth on a free transfer.

Good luck to Artur Boruc who has signed for AFC Bournemouth on a one year deal after being released by Saints at the end of his contract. Boruc left Saints to join the Cherries on loan just after the start of this season and played a key part in their promotion run.

Bournemouth are signing a quality keeper, in 2013/14 I didnt see many better than Boruc in the Premier league and he was crucial to our success in finishing 8th that season, Im sure he would have been just as good for Saints this season if we had not signed Fraser Forster, but having spent big on Forster it was clear that he was going to start at number one and Boruc would have to play second fiddle.

Many keeper might well have sat back and accepted that and took the money, not Artur, approaching 35 he wanted to play so asked to go out on loan.

Bournemouth have wasted no time in securing him on a permanent deal and he is their first signing of the summer.

He has signed for an initial year with the option for a further season after that, a deal that probably suits both parties with it being a big risk that the Cherries, like many promoted teams will find it a tough season and relegation very likely.

I think we made a cock-up when it came to dealing with Boruc and Forster. Not sure why Koeman felt the need to say 'Forster is no. 1' as soon as we signed him. Surely it's all about competition for places, and that comment just undermined Boruc. I can see why he wanted to get out go to a club where he was wanted. Ultimately we ended up paying for that decision when FF got injured.
Boruc has dodgy moments, but he also pulls off saves that other keepers aren't able to (including Forster). I'll be sorry to see him go and wish him all the best... except against Saints, that is.

Love him, I particularly like thàt he has the physique of a darts player and he thinks he is good enough to play outfield.
All the best.

DPeps - I suppose it was obvious to all and sundry anyway after spending all that on FF. Boruc was going to be the reserve and League Cup man so decided he wanted to play some football instead. Yes it would have been nice for him to step in after the injury as it would have meant we let in less goals and got more points (probably come fifth even) but that wasn't going to happen.

Talking of letting in goals - that late City second cost us our 'level best defence in the league title' which was a shame.

Great keeper and a great character too. I always felt confident before and during a game with Artur in Goal, even allowing for the Arsenal and Stoke cock-ups. I'm quite sure the Club would have secured an Europa place had he stayed on, but fully respect his decision to opt for Football rather than bench sitting. Look forward to seeing him next season.

Loans usually signal impending transfers and this one was inevitable given all that was said when he was here and the success he has enjoyed down at Dean Court. I am happy for him.

The future for Turnbell & Stevens is less clear. on the basis of their performance at Wembley at the weekend it seems very unlikely they can have any sort of future back here and after this season's knock-backs it may not even be a certainty that Swindon will want to sign them permanently.

For now they were not amongst players released so that must give them hope of a future in the game.

You could have picked a better pic Nick, none of those people play for us now!

SanMarco - yeah, agree that buying in Forster was making a statement that Boruc was now no. 2 keeper, but I think the management could have done more to keep Boruc sweet. It's not obvious to me that FF is significantly better than Boruc, and I didn't understand the value in Koeman saying FF is the first-choice without seeing them both over a period of time.
To state the obvious: if we'd have had a more competitive squad then we'd have finished higher, and the GK position is one area where we had no real competition. All the teams who finished above us have at least two decent keepers. Maybe Boruc would have got a chance when FF had a few wobbles around November/December time.

I find it hard to believe that Bournemouth have only given him a year deal
Always said that Boruc was the better keeper but FF was the future. Making Boruc No.2 was as much about making a statement about or confidence in FF as it was about being honest with Artur. Letting Boruc go was the decent thing to do, the mistake was not replacing him.

We are in a better position now with Cropper gone but Davis still has a year on his contract. We need an experienced keeper on a year/ two year deal. If we don’t get someone in better than Artur we need to be asking questions.
