Swans Grab Arsenal Goalkeeping Coach

Swansea have confirmed the capture of Tony Roberts as their new goalkeeping coach - securing his move to the club from Arsenal.

He will join up again with Lucasz Fabianski who joined the club from Arsenal last summer and was one of the signings of the season as he played his own major part in helping the Swans to a record Premier League finish.

Roberts enjoyed a distinguished goalkeeping career that spanned over two decades. Having come through the youth ranks at QPR, he made nearly 150 appearances for the West London club before spending a season with Millwall in 1998.

However, after a brief coaching stint in America, Roberts returned to English football with non-league Dagenham & Redbridge in 2000 to become a firm fans' favourite.

He played over 450 games for the Daggers - helping them win promotion to the Football League for the first time in 2007 - and remains the club's all-time record appearance maker.

Swans manager Garry Monk said: “We are disappointed to lose Javi because he has done a great job over the last year and we thank him for all his hard work and dedication.

“But we are delighted to be able to replace him with someone of Tony’s calibre and experience. He comes with an excellent reputation as a forward-thinking, modern and knowledgeable goalkeeping coach.

“I’ve got no doubt that his talents will strengthen the club’s backroom staff and keep improving and pushing the goalkeepers forward.’’
