The transfer window is still some 7 weeks away but already the football media is starting to speculate just who will be targeted by Saints in January.

At a recent press conference Ronald Koeman stated that he was not expecting to bring any more players in to the club during the January transfer window, my first reaction was a little sceptical and I thought "Well he would say that".

No manager likes to alert the media that they are in the market for a player and thus turn the pursuit into an auction, most prefer to keep their cards close to their chest and Ronald Koeman is no different.

But it seems the media has completely ignored the Dutchman judging by the players already being linked with Saints with still 50 days left before the transfer window even opens.

First names in the frame are Nice's midfielder Jean Seri and Eintracht Frankfurt forward Luc Castaignos.

Seri is having a good season for Nice and this is good enough to link the Ivory Coast player with both Saints and Lyon, no thought is given for the fact that Saints have more than enough in that department at the moment.

The 24 year old only joined Lyon in the summer for 1 million euros and Nice or the players agent are clearly looking to cash in.

The media love to link anything Dutch to Ronald Koeman and Castaignos may not sound it but he is a native of the clog wearing nation (that's Holland not Burnley) he made his name at Twente after leaving first Feyenoord and then Inter Milan for a season, possibly passing Koeman as the striker left and the manager joined the Rotterdam Club.

Having made a good start to his first season at Eintracht Frankfurt, it makes sense to link him to Koeman even if there is no actual tangible evidence.

So the first two potential recruits to the St Mary's merry go round have been named and it will be interesting to see how many will be linked with joining Saints between now and the 81 days before the transfer window actually closes.

The media hate team like saints as we're so private about going about our business. Also koeman will never let anyone leave in January except for the exception of gaston ramirez.
