Saints At Leicester City The Preview
Saturday, 2nd Apr 2016 11:55

Can Saints catch Leicester having a few title run in nerves ? I have a feeling that this game might just spring a few surprises.

This is a game that has a few mixed feelings for Saints supporters, on one hand we need all three points to keep up our challenge for a European spot, but on the other if we win we will be the most unpopular team in the country for putting the spanner in the works for the Foxes Premier League hopes.

But both Saints and Leicester will go into this game knowing what they need to do, Liverpool V Spurs is the big one for both clubs and although Leicester fans want nothing less than a Liverpool win, for us Saints fans a draw would perhaps be preferable as it keeps Spurs well behind Leicester whatever happens on Sunday and it keeps Liverpool behind us.

Ronald Koeman has a few selection problems, but they are all good ones, he has virtually a full squad to choose from and an abundance of attacking riches and this could be the key, as we showed against Liverpool n both league games this season, this Saints side is not beaten till the final whistle.

The manager will also have to consider what to do at the back, in recent week he has preferred Martina to Soares, but to be blunt Martina was the weak link against Liverpool and seemed unable to hold his position meaning that the Merseysiders poured forward on the break on too many occasions and punished us.

That is the game that Leicester themselves like to play and we need to ensure we don't play right into their hands.

They would prefer us to come at them so they can draw us in and then break with ruthless efficiency as they have done so far this season, but we have to decline this invitation and try and draw them out a little so we can use our own attacking pace on the break.

If we can do that then I feel that we have a good chance of getting something from this game and it could be a case again of keeping tight and then winning it late on.

When we look back at this season it will be a case of rueing some defensive errors and lacks of concentration, these have sneaked back in our game of late and have to be stopped, if we do so then we can have a great end to the season, if we don't then I think it will be one with plenty of "if only's" to talk about.

But we need to keep playing and beating what is in front of us and this week it's Leicester City and on paper given they are league leaders its technically our hardest game of the season.

But we have won some good points away from home this season against the top sides, now we need to go again and spoil Leicester's title charge, if we do that then it will be only fair to them to balance things up by beating Tottenham Hotspur in a month's time.

So I have a sneaky feeling that Saints will get something out of this game, but first we need to se where we stand after Saturday' round of fixtures.

I hope we play the ball around with the same confidence that we did when we were at St Mary's. We played them off the park for about 60 mins.
