Stephen Vaughan jnr is one of those rare breed of footballers, who throughout his time at Spotland never did anything wrong, didn't receive one word of criticism from supporters and was pretty much faultless for his entire spell at the club. That said, he didn't even make it as far as the bench for the club.

It will go down as one of the most bizarre transfers that the club has ever known. He was one of Keith Hill's first signings when he arrived on a month's loan from Chester City, which by all accounts was with a view to a permanent transfer. However, he didn't even get with a whisker of the match day squad and he left within a short time of arriving at the club to join Boston United on a permanent deal.

Of course, the local rumour mill was full of stories, with suggestions being that he came to Spotland as a favour to Chester City chairman Stephen Vaughan snr who just happened to be the left back's father. Other stories suggest that Vaughan came to Spotland for his own good as he was pretty much forced out of Chester. Whatever the reason was, it was certainly not a normal transfer, and at least it never had any impact on the first team at Spotland.
