Oriol Romeu capped a fine season by winning both the fans and the players player of the year awards.

There will not be too many who will argue with the Spanish midfielder winning both awards, in fairness he might have been pushed a little harder if Virgil Van Dijk had not been injured in January, but that happened and Romeu is a worthy winner in both awards.

The President's award as chosen by Club legend Terry Paine went to Maya Yoshida and although I have been a critic of the Japanese International this season, I cannot argue with this, no one can deny Yoshida's commitment to Southampton Football Club and the fact that he has done his best in a situation that he really should not have been thrown into, to lose one central defender and not replace them is careless, to do it a second time is something that is not only plain failure of someone to do their job, but has cost us dearly.

Sofiane Boufal won the goal of the year award for his strike against Sunderland in the League Cup gaining 31% of the voting and narrowly seeing off Jay Rodriguez challenge for his second goal at Bournemouth with 29%

Jake Vokins was awarded Young Player of the Season, following a fine season for the Under-18s and Under-23s.

Vokins, who was unable to collect the award due to being at the European Championships with England Under-17s, made huge progress throughout the year and signed his first professional contract in March.

NeilF added 09:38 - May 5 I have to agree with this award as Romeu who has consistently put in great solid performances all year. I am not sure about Boufall's award when you think about the one kick to Romeu's whole match contributions over the season. It all seems strange when he has only scored two goals all season, put in poor performances and has been injured.

ChristchurchSaint added 14:03 - May 5 LordDZ, can I also add the fact that Maya has always done as asked, even playing out of position for Koeman, and until recently, has only played when needed. As far as we know, he has never thrown his toys out or shouted his mouth off about how badly he has been treated. Personally, I also agree that the award was totally deserved.

It's probably also worth taking a dig at this precise point in time too at all the Les critics who were crying into their half empty pint glasses when we let Vic go and brought in Romeu to fill the gap. After all some people do have a tendency to forget..

Romeu has really stepped up to the plate this season and deserves huge recognition and congratulations for his performances. My only concern is whether we can keep him this summer. He's been pretty candid in saying he's saints through and through. But we've all seen in the past a change of agent and players having more self-entitlement can change situations drastically. Yoshida’s been excellent this season and has really solidified his position as a squad player for Southampton FC. When he first came here I wasn't the biggest fan and always thought he wouldn’t last more than a couple of seasons. But he’s certainly proved a lot of doubters wrong and I can only congratulate him for that. Let’s hope next season both can keep up or better their performances.

davepid added 09:31 - May 6 Goal of season. Did longs goal at Anfield get any votes? Superb run from Sims half length of the pitch, a dummy run from Holberg and a neat finish from Shane ( never a bang on certainty) sealed a great team performance.
