Perhaps the best approach to the VVD saga would be to:
1) Buy Weley Hoedt ASAP for £12-15 million from Lazio. VVD will not be playing for us again anytime soon (even if we don't sell him), so we clearly need another CB as we have no PL level cover/competition for Yoshi or Stephens. Perhaps also buy Lemina too.
2) Tell VVD that he can only move to another club (not Liverpool) if he provides us with a witness statement about how Liverpool tapped him up. Then hand that to the FA/Premier League as evidence of their behaviour. This will hopefully lead to a transfer ban. I reckon VVD might agree to this if he could go to a top 4 club instead.
3) Sell him to Chelsea/Man City for as much as we can get (hopefully at least £65 million).
4) Boo VVD whenever he comes to St Mary's next.

I appreciate that a lot of people want him to rot in the reserves (and that idea is appealing) but it's not a sensible long term business decision.

The other option is to simply refuse to sell him and hope he sees sense and can be reintegrated back into the squad in the long term, but that could take an age if he carries on his petulant behaviour and risks upsetting others in the squad esp. if he replaces them.

HE IS NOT FOR SALE

the problem now is barcelona have 200 million pounds cash in the bank
LFC will not turn down 120million cash paid in one instalment for PC
so can the owner of SFC turn down 100million cash one payment for VVD
you decide

The silly boy is firmly in the hands of the agents, before they may have appeared to be acting in his best interest; anyone can see that they never were; a percentage of the transfer fee has been given up by VvD; not his agent. Now they will only be interested in Saints getting the best price for him. If it is Liverpool then so be it, there is nothing we supporters can do about any of this..

- A man that studieth revenge keeps his own wounds green - an old saying but true.

We are going to be in the position to strengthen the Club with one or more world class or potential world class players to continue to develop. Lets debate who, not keep wingeing about VvD and Liverpool.

I would personally be very wary of any players who are contracted to VvD's agents, a lesson learned I hope .

Vengeance is best exacted in cold blood, properly thought through. No saints fan will ever forget what has happened, our time will come, it always does.......

Nick talking a lot of sense there. Totally disagree that we have to sell now.
VanDijk ensuring Saints can hold on to more of any transfer fee. But unless we get want we want for him (£70m plus) we'd be fools to sell and just be showing we're a small club. No bids received, so to invite offers would only diminish what we can get for a fee.
In the unlikely event that the player stays and suitable bids don't come in, the climb down seen in September will be of the greatest fashion I will have ever seen from a player. And he will have to suck it up, or won't get any precious football time
